which sampler is better to start making beats? i'm thinking of the roland sp 404 or the mpc 500...or would it be better to start with some software like fl (altough i'm not really into all this digital things)...

I would have to dissagree most of the best beat makers here rock the 404 or even the 303. Some of the best producers rock software as well so it all depends!!!

I think most people start out on software tho these days and then once they got the basics knuckled and more of an idea which hardware is ideal for them, then they splash the cash on the machines!!! But its up to you man you gotta feel comfortable with using whatever it is you go for, I would suggest hitting youtube and get a good idea of whats what before you buy tho!!

For the record im saving for the 404 cos it has a much warmer and richer tone than anything else going IMO

thanks!! yeah i was on youtube and heard some really tight shit made with an sp 404...a sp 555 or of course a mpc 1000 would be cool but they are too expensive...

mantis do you have experience with a sp 404?
