View Full Version : Who have you seen live?

I know there are a bunch of threads in the Hip-Hop forum in regards to this, but who have you seen live and who would you recommend seeing live? I find that with Hip-Hop shows you kinda know what to expect from a performer before you even get there, whereas with other genre's theres that element of surprise. This thread could be used as a guide per say, so please build on.

Acts I have seen (somewhat categorized by genre);

Kid Koala (Probably the best show I've ever been to, Im not a fan of his records but live, this dude is without any doubt the best DJ in the world. If you are a fan of music in the slightest, you will love KK live, dont miss out on an opportunity to see him.)

RJD2 (Pretty good show, set kind of runs dry half way through when he runs out of stuff to play and just does mash-ups. His mediocore performances are made up for by his outstanding records)

Girl Talk (Hype as fuck, his catalog is perfect for concerts, his music pretty much consists of classics that everybody knows mashed-up with current big hits/well-known radio stuff. His shows are more of a party than a concert, when everybody knows the tunes and he just keeps the energy coming, you're guaranteed a good show - one of my favs.)

M83 (Really, really dull, good music to fall asleep to or for studying, as far as seeing them live you pretty much get the same effect.)

Holy Fuck (Mediocre, nothing really different than just listening to their records.)

Metric (Really great act, they tend to play a large variety of their catalog that tends to appeal to any Metric fan. Also seeing the cutie blond coke-head main singer Emily Haines prance around for an hour is pretty cool too.)

Broken Social Scene (These guys really are amazing, their live performances tend to consist of about 8-10 band members and they play a really extensive amount of their stuff.)

CAKE (Dopeness, real hype, great music, funny as fuck)

KISS (Now this is an act where you kinda know what to expect, hype tunes, fire works, and flame breathing, can't really go wrong with that.)

Toots & The Maytals (One of my favorite shows of all time, I think the main dude is like in his 70's and still managed to rock like 5000 people and get everyone singin.)

Lynyrd Skynyrd (weeeeaaakk, granted I saw them in Canada, their confedirate flags didn't go over too well. Unlike KISS, these guys probably should stop doing tours in there old age.)

I figured I'd do a small review of the most recognizable names, here are other acts that I have seen

MSTRKRFT
Iron & Wine
Ben Harper
The Dodos
Okkervil River
King Khan & BBQ Show
The Zombies
Arkells
The National
Blue Rodeo
Great Lake Swimmers
Gym Class Heros
Stone Temple Pilots
Femi Kuti

build on.

ya it was like 5 years ago...they really don't move or anything (except like pocket calculator), but it's an experience with the giant screens showing movies and hearing them play on a concert system sounds amazing...it was at this place called seaside music theatre that usually has performances of plays and shit lol the one dude ralf huetter, the one doing vocals, was the only one displaying any emotions. the bald dude looked like a megalomaniacal scientist.

i was high on perocets and northern lights...the girl i was dating at the time was a pillhead lol...she actually passed out multiple times during the show...but it was great lol they pretty much did the entire tour de france soundtracks album, and trans europe express sounds incredible live, especially the 'metal on metal' bits...but if you check out the minimum/maximum dvd it's pretty much the same concert lol it was much different than any other concert i've been too

how were those, out of curiosity?
KMK was a pretty decent one. my brother tried putting me onto them, i dont like them all to much but they gave a show. lotta fun chics there.

JEDI was bummy. Paz never left the front center of the stage. he just kept this rocking motion and throwin his hand out with the beat. im sure your picturing it right lol. i like the go hard music but it seemed tedious efter a while... didnt give much diversity. Jus came out at the end and blew that shit away.

Technique wasn't too bad. alotta lame mexies there trying to promote their own shit about uplifting the barrio or some such non-sense which kinda ruined it but he gave a decent concert... got to eat with him after the show and he ain't all he's hyped up to be as a person. either he's a deuch that thinks you ain't on his level or he doesn't take in what he spits himself.

Ali was ill... his music is full of energy so it was worth going outta town for it.

i hate nerd but they gave everyone their moneys worth i think. i went just to get with this broad and she passed out AT the concert so during the change of performers i took advantage of her then went back to my spot and enjoyed them more than that girl.

I try to hit up a few of the guerilla union festivals every year, and i get house of blues tickets for free.

Ice Cube is pretty dope live. He plays alot of stuff from his earlier days, and he usually brings out WC with him. I'll be seeing him again too. Hopefully, he leaves I Am The West out!

MF DOOM, Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Goodie Mob, Common (when he was Sense), Nas, Talib Kweli, Cypress Hill, Fugees, Wu Tang Clan (group), Ghostface w/Raekwon, Gza w/ Ins. Deck, Cappadonna w/Killah Priest, ODB, Tribe (again) w/Busta Rhymes.

Pound for Pound live the best was The Roots. And sadly the weirdest was ODB...in 98' he came for a solo show at the House of Blues but man he got drunk and didn't perform much of anything. The crowd was pissed.

The craziest would be Ghostface in 2k5 at Joe's. Opening act was Tru-life, and dude fucked up the crowd & started a fight...cops came, half the crowd left & Ghostface restored order. Any Chi heads there will remember.
