i know many consider dilla to be one of the best producers but i ent got an album that features his full production, so i wanna know what album you would reccomend for me to check out first...

i'm thinking Donuts or Champion Sound, but i have no idea which is meant to be his best set of beats so ima need y'all to help me out with that

oh, and on the Roots song 'Can't Stop This' there is an ill beat which plays around 7mins 30 into the track, is that a dilla beat? and if it is what album is that on?

thanks to anyone who replies.

The beat you're talking about is on Donuts, which I highly recommend. I've never really done much research on his other work, but Donuts alone is a great enough portrayal of his talent.

^^ nah hell no, it's a crime to sleep on "Donuts".. that's a masterpiece in my book, but other than that i'd recommend "Welcome 2 Detroit" besides the ones you'd mentioned. start with "Donuts", "Fantastic II" and "Like Water for Chocolate"... "Amplified" is a good album too produced by DILLA & Q-Tip.

Champion Sound is really good, Madlib & Dilla are decent on the mike & seemed to have a lot of fun making this project. My personal favorite Dilla album is Donuts. Ruff Draft & The Shining had some nice cuts also.

if you're going the illegal route for those rare gems he has the 3 beat tapes as well as the instrumentals for Pharcyde's Deelicious vinyl. Ruff Draft and Champion sound both include instrumentals but for the most part it's just the full extended loops. when it comes to just intrumentals- you gotta have those donuts.

Heat from Like Water For Chocolate is still his best beat ever

^ That and for some reason I can't stop listening to The Light. That Bobby Caldwell sample (I think that's his name) is genius.
