if you don't care for the dude's music then obviously no need to respond, but the guy has a large catalogue of music; atleast in the sense that each album has a completely different feel to it.
Variety in music from a perfectionist if you ask me.

But on the question- i gotta go with Midnight Vultures.
LOVE Modern Guilt & Odelay for close/tied 2nd, but MV is my shit.
And when it comes to mellow/acoustic albums in general, Sea Change is godly.
It's depressing without being whiney, but sounds SO good.

voted Modern Guilt. I like all the albums a lot but at this point I like modern guilt the most.Maybe I like it the most right now because its the newest release. My last favorite was the information , I played that shit over and over.

Every time I get a Beck record I keep it in rotation for a while. Dude is a genius.I like how Guero had a remix album(guerolito).

up until the information came out ,my favorite was Mutations.

midnight vultures. it was his venture into rnb.

i still got the aqua tape. wore that mf out.
pressure zone
sex laws
nicotine & gravy
debrah
get real paid

beck said he likes the rnb genre because of the freedom in songwriting and absence of pretension in subject matter. you can hear it in the lyrics like he was really having fun while making the record.

tho odelay really defines beck. and devils haircut is my fav beck song. MV is my fav album.

Wow. I wouldn't think this one would even be up for debate! I'm the only one who voted "Odelay"!?

Hmm.. His first was great too, and I'm definitely loving "Modern Guilt". Yup.

Downside: He's been a Scientologist all his life.

^ true, but when madness and art combine it can be quite beautiful.

I voted for Odelay. That album is THE reason that I got into hip hop.

^ really!? hmm. interesting.

I'm glad no one said "Sea Change". I can't take that seriously.

I haven't heard ANY of "Midnite Vultures" (except "Deborah" (!!!)) or "Mutations" .. and most of "Guero" and "The Information"

What about "One Foot In The Grave" ? I like a lot of stuff on there.

i voted "vultures" for the reasons and songs crow described--it's the most groovy lol from a lyrical and production standpoint.
then the information, modern guilt, one foot in the grave

i used to hate odelay...but after listening to all his albums...i found it to be the culmination of all his styles...the closest to a like...compilation record without being one. i love it now...and sea change..real simple...Lonesome fuckin Tears..eloels.

Wha's wrong with Sea Change? And what does being a scientologist or not have to do with anything? lol

only Odelay, MV, and MG?
i mean i can't say those being the favorites are all that shocking..... i just thought there'd be more beck fans on this forum.

I have all of his albums. I think that those are the albums that really stand out. If I had to listen to 3 albums in succession of his I think they'd be:

1. Odelay
2. Sea Change
3. Guero

I think these three would make for a good variety in listening. His sound seem to gather in clumps throughout his career. One Foot In The Grave and Mellow Gold are pretty similar, with a pretty twangy, bare bones sound. Midnite Vultures and Odelay are his funk/rap/industrial period, while Sea Change and Mutations go for the depressed, acoustic Beck. Then you've got the proggy rock, electro fuzz Beck with Guero and The Information. Modern Guilt was harder to pin down. It had a very retro sound to it (no doubt because of the production by DangerMouse). The majority of it rocked a lot less than Guero or The Information. Very floaty and dreamy for the most part. I like old Beck much more than new Beck. He's gotten slightly boring.

Ahhhh, and has anybody heard of his new project? It's called Record Club. Free releases of covers of some of his favorite albums on a monthly basis! He's doing Velvet Underground and Nico first. Here's the link for those interested.

soul sucking jerk was pretty good. mellow gold has some dittys like "nightmare hippy girl". every now and then I find myself singing them songs to myself even though they weird than a mf.

I like all the beck albums. I honestly cant claim a favorite. I take it back about modern guilt being the best.

Cherry gardens and also the ending of milk and honey are some other dope things about beck.
