i got this for Christmas when it came out, and it was the first full album i ever listened to. i thought it was alright, it's nothing special. i'm not gonna say it's a classic, and i won't say it's horrible.

its good but really overlong (even without the unnecessary bonus tracks). they were obviously throwing back to old school hip hop with all the references to cypress, epmd, x-clan, das efx, so why not have an old school approach to tracklisting. epmd's albums only had like 10 tracks on there. i propose this new tracklisting

01 : A Special Joint (Intro)
02 : Blackout
03 : Y.O.U.
04 : Da Rockwilder
05 : Cereal Killer
06 : Mi Casa
07 : Tear It Off
08 : Maaad Crew
09 : Run 4 Cover
10 : The ?
11 : Dat's Dat Shit ft. Mally G

Best tracks have got to be

Da Rockwilder
Fire Inna Hole
Dats Dat Shit
Mi Casa
Tear It off
Big Dogs

As i always say- More than 5 great tracks makes a good album. Less filler and it would have been great.

Thought the album was really wayward with no direction or goal to achieve other than sales. I really like these two artists but together it just gets tiring for me. IMO they should maybe collab a song or two a year but a whole album gets a little too much for me.

It started with "How High" in '95 which was a success in every way.

Redman had three unbelievably ill albums, Meth was Meth and the year was 1999. It seemed like a match made in heaven.

But the album is blah at best.

Really disappointed with Eric Sermon on this. Not that i really like anything on it.

I'd give it 4 mics/5 mics because its fire but it just doesnt have as much substance to me as some of their solo stuff.

And I agree with the person who said its too long... Eventually it seems to just drag onnnn and onnnnnn.

Definetaly a banga 9/10.

01 A Special Joint (Intro) n/a (still funny though...)
02 Blackout 8,5/10 very dope track, but should be shorter, cause beat starts to get annoying in the end
03 : Mi Casa 10/10 personal classic, superb beat plus Red & Meth destroy this
04 : Y.O.U. 8/10 nice, but quite commercial
05 : 4 Seasons (ft. Ja Rule & LL Cool J) 7/10, would be higher if there wasn't Ja Rule (bleeeeee), LL is boring on this, his verse is too long
06 : Cereal Killer 10/10 classic, RZA beat is O:) , and blanted duo kills the mic
07 : Da Rockwilder 10/10 OBVIOUS CLASSIC
08 : Tear It Off 8/10 another too long track, drugs too much
09 : Where We At (Skit)
10 : 1,2,1,2 6/10 I'm not feeling this one
11 : Maaad Crew 10/10 beat is bananas, absolutely fits the style of Meth and Red
12 : Run 4 Cover ft. Ghostface Killah & Streetlife 10/10 Wu-Tang classic, RZA provided the best beats on the Blackout
13 : The ? 7/10 average
14 : Dat's Dat Shit ft. Mally G 5/10 the worst song on the album
15 : Cheka 9/10 very good remake
16 : Fire Ina Hole 10/10 my favourite track on this, Mathematics beat is amazing, Meth & Red couldn't waste it:spin:
17 : Well All Rite Cha (Bonus) n/a (reused song, I hate this beat though)
18 : Big Dogs (Bonus) n/a (another reused song, originally 9/10 for me on Tical 2000)
19 : How High (Remix) (Bonus) 7,5/10 (doesn't touch the original)

I aint a dick rider. And i do not have a favorite Wu-Tang general. I like them all the same. But seriously, there must be someone out there who agrees with me.

The album BLACKOUT! by Redman & Method Man contains the most entertaining, witty, and well delivered raps Method Man has ever laid down. His rhymes may not be as deep or "intellectual" as others WU general albums, but i will go as far as to say THEY ARE THE MOST CLEVER AND WELL SAID OFF ANY WU ALBUM.

His delivery on every track on that album is 100% on point, top-notch quality hip-hop entertainment. With raps (such as his verses on "Tear The Roof Off" or even "Y.O.U." for example) he seriously deserves at least a pat on the back. His lyrics are cool, but what makes them so fun to listen to is the way he lays them down on the track with such perfection. They're so twisty and creative. His voice alone plays a big part too.

I'll say his raps on FOREVER were excellent as well, but BLACKOUT! just has that shit that makes you put your closed fist up to your mouth and go "OOooohhhh! Haha!!"

It shocks me how little this album is spoken about in the Wu-Tan Corp. Is it because it got radio play? ("Oh no! It's on the radio! Fucking sell outs!!!") Anyone agree with me??

"Now who wanna fuck with Hot Nix, Niggas chew gum with they ass and pop shit."

I'm not too familar with "Blackout!" all I can remember is:
"Da Rockwilder" & "Run 4 Cover" and yeah I think those two tracks are SICK, Method goes on sick flows in those tracks but now I am intriged I've got to check it out properly because that is a bold statement to make especially comparing it to his "FOREVER" verses.
A big reason for you thinking this maybe because he is with Redman who as we all know is one of the funniest dudes in the world, and they have unbelivable chemistry, Idon't know its like its not as serious as Wu-Tang material.

This album is easily one of the best of 1999. Real dope album. Good lyrics, good production (E. Sermon, RZA, Mathematics, Roc'Wilder), good guest appearances (both LL Cool J and Ja Rule, whom I'm really not fond of, both ripped "4 Seasons" also Ghostface, Streetlife, Blue Raspberry, and Mally G appeared on the album) and finally overall good chemistry from Meth & Red.

I listened to Blackout for a long time now... and i love every track, i got 70 % of the lirics memorysed for like 4 yrs now...

But i cant campare it with other Wu joints...
The lirycs r bangin, same as the production and everything else, except ja rule on 4 Seasons haha...
Meth really shines, same with Funk Doc on Blackout...
Sick combination... Its underrated.

I still love that album and I know just what you mean. It's not intellectual or dark, but it's strictly top form lyricism and beats, just killer tracks and a good time. I listen to it here and there more consistantly than a lot of my other post-forever Wu yet it never gets talked about.

Anyways Blackout! is a personal classic, brings back memories.

Murda, murda, murda, kill, kill, kill
Pissing on the car seats, flattenin' the wheels
So there's no escape from the fate that awaits
No one to witness the horror taking place
Yeah, now I'm on my way up the stairs
To the bedroom on my prey unaware
Heads will be hung from the chimney with care
With hopes that the police soon will be here

i have to disagree. and i dont understand why people like you feel that way. method man ALWAYS lays down clever rhymes, followed by a sick flow that he can switch up on so many levels its rediculous. just the way he delivers his rhymes is one of the main reasons why he is such a good mc. nobody captures that perfect delivery like meth, NOBODY. why is he overrated do you say? why do you think he shouldnt be listed too high? you're making statements without anything to back them up and noones gonna respect your opinion unless they make any sense.

I agree with you! Blackout is not as good as some albums, but Meth absolutely ripped every track! Some of his best versus ever are on this album.

^^co sign at 100% with this. Meth always been on point and he can rip up any beat whether hip hop or not...remember the tracks ft. Texas (rock) the one ft. Congo Natty (ragga/reggae) and alot of tracks ft RnB singers...Meth is the prototype of the MC (KRS1 said).
Blackout is a Classic for me, i can listen to it all day long and never get boring.

Look, Meth is among my top mc's...
I just think he's overrated becouse sometimes he spits average verses. Method Man got crazy creativity, and gold lyrics, plus few MC's can be as charismatic him, but when u look at the Wu Tang Clan u can find better MC's than him... I think you definetely dont understand how much i worship MEF, when i started listening to rap he was my idol, and I still feel him...
And yes, i agree he can switch to different ways of rhyming, switching flows...
But sometimes, Meth sounds lazy and boring... But when i bump the Afterparty track on, I can do nothing but be amazed by what HE and Ghost r rapping...
I'm listening to "Tical" album now, and i have no complaints..
Some of the new shit is average... Look, he's one of my favorites, but lookin at the best of the best, i find at least 20 MC whose greater than him...

and one more thing, Yall think of me as an Johnny Blaze hater, but yall wrong... I always defend him when i hear people talking shit about Meth...(in real life) But saying he's overrated aint that bad as yall think... He gets plenty recognition, more than 80% of the clan... and in general, he gets recongition...
