I think they were very terrible at maketing and promoting and often rushed their product.

^^ Yea, plus after the Genesis they had trouble lining up third-party support. I think EA Sports wouldn't release games for Dreamcast. Just imagine Square-Enix making games for DC. SEGA also focused too much on Sonic & forgot to keep their other characters/classic games on par with Sonic. Remember Space Harrier, Alex Kidd, Wonder Boy? Imagine those on DC & Saturn with 3D or even 2D graphics. Phantasy Star turned into a popular online game but they never capitalized on it's success like Square does with Final Fantasy. They should of also kept up the Phantasy Star franchise as a single-player game along with the newer Phantasy Star games. I just recently bought a used SEGA Master System on eBay, LOL.

of course it was their marketing
people very often claim this including sega itself
they even admit to which products were rushed and what they planned on doing that they couldnt due to time issues
you asked a question in the title and answered it in the opening post
try and funnel your stupidity into just one section if any
