View Full Version : Pet Sounds V. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band

i haven't listened to pet sounds that much but the 2 are often compared.
i'd say pet sounds is a better composition, by far, but SGT is more exciting and a better listen, which to me is what its all about.

and im counting Strawberry fields and Penny Lane. those 2 are on the same level of composition as the best of Pet Sounds imo.

mod add a poll.

i think revolver vs. pet sounds is the more fair comparison, and smile vs. pepper. also if you throw in fields/lane you gotta throw in good vibrations on the bb side. as far as the comparison at hand, pepper wins, but it's close.

on a sort of off topic subject - I was shopping today and was at a place that sells these fleece blankets with designs on them.you know the kind ,they're soft. anyway they had Beatles and then they had Jimi and they had somebody else (maybe the doors) and the Beatles Fleece blanket was 30 bones and the other ones were 20.

I had to ask myself why jimi was cheaper

electric ladyland > sgt peppers

but in the matter of the thread topic

sgt peppers > pet sounds

and moreover

Beatles > Beach Boys

I'd go w/ the Beatles...Both are good albums though.

Two brilliant albums which I still listen to a lot. However, I'm gonna' have to go with the GOAT, Sgt. Peppers.

sgt peppers

although 'god only knows' is gawdly

and i agree with infinity about electric ladyland...it's like he's only remembered for his guitar playing but that album and axis are amazing.

Sgt Peppers for me is the greatest album of all time. For whatever reason I never got into Pet Sounds.

Sgt. Pepper is one my fav. albums...period.but i voted Pet Sounds for its complexity.

I don't think Sgt, Peppers is anywhere near as good as Pet Sounds. I just think it's become the hip thing to say. The Beatles in no way had the same effect on vocal backing that the Beach Boys had. We're talking God-like harmonies here. Listen to the end of God Only Knows, You still Believe in Me, or Waiting For the Day. The Beatles just couldn't do that.

10-26-2010, 03:34 PM
Oh, and for the record, Pet Sounds and Wild Honey are better than any Beatles record ever made.

brian wilson went crazy with jealousy trying to surpass the Beatles...and he LOST. he responded to Rubber Soul with Pet Sounds, the Beatles responded with Revolver AND Sgt. Pepper, while wilson was pipe dreaming about Smile. know the history.

10-26-2010, 04:31 PM
George Martin said Sgt. Pepper was an attempt to equal Pet Sounds and he never said they succeeded. Smile was shelved yes, but that was mostly due to Mike Love and Capitol records. Brian Wilson went crazy because he was doing LSD everyday, if we're on the record. Sgt. Peeper was originally supposed to be this big theme album, but only a few of the tracks actually followed the theme. It is vastly different from what Paul had originally intended. But all of this is neither nor there because I seriously doubt you ever listened to Pet Sounds or any Beach Boys record for that matter.

10-26-2010, 04:43 PM
listen Mayflower, I listened to every Beatles record and most Beach Boys. Pet Sounds isn't even their best album; it's Surf's Up (1971). in any case, Beatles murder the Beach Boys in every way, shape and form. they had good harmonies? that's nice, because the Beatles had EVERYTHING else

10-26-2010, 05:02 PM
Don't be stupid, the Beach Boys had it all as well, I was just pointing out the glaring deficiency when it comes to comparing the two. Surf's Up was a collection of half used tracks dating back to the SMiLe session days. Let's not get crazy now thinking we know a lot about their catalog.

10-26-2010, 05:48 PM
the beach boys didn't even record a decent album til pet sounds in 1966. brian wilson became a jealous little bitch and realized he needed to do something about it after hearing Rubber Soul. and he lost. again and again. until he went crazy.

10-26-2010, 05:54 PM
The Beach boys never made a decent record until Pet Sounds? So all those albums that churned out hits were somehow bad? I think you are taking this a bit too personally to actually have a rational conversation. It's surreal.

10-26-2010, 10:04 PM
every album before pet sounds revolved around one hit single and 12 fillers

10-26-2010, 10:13 PM
Yes, clearly you're right there.

Today! - 4 hit singles with B sides.
Shut Down pt 2 - 3 hit singles with B sides

Anything else you want to be proven wrong about or are you done looking stupid?

10-26-2010, 10:23 PM
you're obviously one of those retards who think American rock artists are better than British rock artists. and I hate to burst your bubble but NO. the beach boys were four Yankees who sang like girls and got jealous when the Beatles started recording real music. truth hurts

Pet Sounds.

10-26-2010, 10:29 PM
That's absolutely not true. The Who, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin and The Beatles are amongst some of my favorite groups of all time. Where are they from? Stop crying because somebody differs from your opinion, it makes you sound like a crybaby bitch.

10-26-2010, 10:33 PM
then you should know the beach boys don't have shit on any of them. now go listen to Radiohead

10-26-2010, 10:38 PM
Emo fags listen to Radiohead, makes sense you would recommend them.

10-26-2010, 10:44 PM
hahaha every music critic in the world is bending down to kiss Radiohead's ass. their album KID A has been voted best album of the decade by every music magazine you can name. where the fuck have you been?

Professor Poopsnagle

Pink Floyd is the best band period. The Beatles are the most overrated band ever.

hahaha every music critic in the world is bending down to kiss Radiohead's ass. their album KID A has been voted best album of the decade by every music magazine you can name. where the fuck have you been?
Good point, emo fag.

10-26-2010, 10:51 PM
that their the most critically acclaimed band since 1995 and have been on every best-of list you can name? yup

10-26-2010, 10:53 PM
Absolutely, they are awesome. What exactly does that have to do with Pet Sounds vs. Sgt. Pepper? Nothing? Oh well, I guess that makes you stupid then.

10-26-2010, 10:58 PM
I think it's already been established the Beatles are the best thing to happen to rock music. if not according to me, then according to every rock artist, critic, editor, and pundit in the world

10-26-2010, 11:07 PM
I'm not arguing that point. It's not a popularity contest with me. I don't need to climb a mountain and lift my skirt to the heavens declaring the Beatles the best rock group in the history of music cuz everybody says so. You obviously do though, so knock yourself out.

10-27-2010, 08:37 AM
If you think the beatles are the best thing to happen to rock music, i feel sad for you.

11-17-2010, 04:01 PM
Both are good albums, but I would have to go with Pet Sounds..I think that all of the beatles albums are all over the place and all of the songs don't fit together. the only exception to me would have to be Rubber Soul.

11-18-2010, 05:22 PM
listen to these pretentious fags. of course they pick pet sounds, it's the COOL thing to say. anyway, Radiohead is the best band ever

11-18-2010, 05:37 PM
You talk about pretension, then spout the name Radiohead in the next breath? Do you even realize how stupid you are?

11-18-2010, 06:07 PM
shitfaced? out of jail? you must be a pork-eating faggot Mayflower huh?

11-18-2010, 06:12 PM
What does that have to do with you being stupid?

11-18-2010, 06:15 PM
um....the fact that you're a pagan and possibly a devil, which is worse

11-18-2010, 06:34 PM
Well, can't argue with that.
