Depends on my mood, I love how the Simpson's can get their point across with a relatively clean sense of humour. South Park on the other hand speaks for itself.

Classic Simpsons has he subtle classic funny shit, and has that classic art style obviously.

South park is more laugh out loud, especially all the more recent seasons, like last 5 or 6 seasons have been classic.

I would say simpsons. And these two drastically differ, which i will talk about later,

Main reason is that simpsons are more appropriate to people of all ages. And not because of vulgarity and violence in south park, i'm talking about the simplicity of simpsons and its versatility and very complex and witty humor.

See, child of 7 years and man of 77 can both watch the show and enjoy it equally, they will be attracted by different jokes, actions, scenes...etc. Simpsons are more layered and complex in that way. They are simply universal. Series have many characters that attract people of different ages and different views, and its mixture makes this show beautiful.

As a 10 year old kid i watched the show and i enjoyed, i still enjoy it. My grandmother sometimes watches it and laughs at some stuff that are not so funny for me, but for a 80 year old person it is.

On the other hand south park is also a beast, and i'm also great fan of it. It is so uncompromising, and that is what i like the most., and that is the main difference beetwen south park and simpsons. South park are more in the face type humor.

its not fair to compare shows to the simpsons cause everyone has bit from them so hard that it watered down the shows revolutionary godliness. south park hasn't though other then the fact its an adult oriented cartoon.

Can't ignore the 15 years run of The Simpsons, while being a family show at that. Shogah said it best "its versatility and very complex and witty humor" this thread should've ended with his post.

South Park can make young ppl laugh more easily cuz it don't have any limits they do whatever they want where The Simpson is a 6 O Clock show is harder so they are more smarter with jokes

south park by a long way. simpsons stopped being funny more than 10 years ago, at least compared to other shows.

certainly the simpsons will have a more diverse audience due to it being non-explicit.

c'mon son!
i don't think any of the ones you listed are, south park's the only contender imo...and at least boondocks and macfarlane's stuff is worthy, but 'frisky dingo'? 'drawn together'? next you'll be telling 'squidbillies' is better, or 'minoriteam'

frisky dingo? frisky. dingo.

i would've taken 'home movies' or 'metalocalypse' and quietly disagreed and kept it moving...but you brought out some of the dregs imo. robot chicken is completely dependent on pop culture references to exist, take those away and there's absolutey no content at all.

i like aqua teen and shin chan, but the humor on both is fairly one dimensional...i can't wrap my brain around the absurdity of these assertions lol.

oh yeah you can throw matalcolypse in there too. i dont like home movies or minoriteam. i like squidbillies but that show is all about mindless and pointless humor. still its funny. i thought frisky dingo was gonna be one of those idiotic shows like tim and eric awesome show, toms goes to the mayor, assy mcgee, and Xavior but its actually a pretty clever show. have you given it a chance?

you can also throw in daria. an animated comedy that was more interesting than it was funny. didnt make me laugh much but the story was very intriguing.

the simpsons used to be my absolute favorite show but other shows came along that were better and i lost interest.

^^really? i never watched it...the commercials made it look horrific...
also...south park can be witty and clever as well...it occasionally has some very incisive social satire.
but somebody let me know when there's a show with as many quotables, hilarious bits, and as sprawling, diverse, and interesting cast of characters as the simpsons. i would think the sheer number of springfielders with funny quotes and subplots is enough on its own to give simpsons the edge over any other show.

South Park. i respect the simpsons but they ain't my cup of tea. although i will give them the fact that they had one episode i saw years ago that was, hands down, the funniest thing i have seen in my life.
to this day i can remember laughing about it for almost a week. i rarely laugh at shit out loud despite my "lol"s but i wish i knew what that episode was. i'll have to retrace my steps to at least pin point the season.
overall i liked south park but they have both seemingly dizzled down imo.

Family Guy is better then both

Simpsons is more appealing. Clean, pure funny comedy with sprinkles of funny references and some mature situations sprinkled in.

South Park is completely different. Extremely funny in a darker, more mature manner. Rarely clean, grimy and gritty to the core, but you can't watch that for long periods of time or else your mind would fry.

they made an episode dedicated to it because they were sick of being compared to family guy's humor--which is more formulaic and predictable, more random, and completely lacking in context and social relevance.

i laugh at it sometimes though, i won't front...but it's really not well written comedy television.

Family Guy is simple in format, but you really need to have a wealth of knowledge of old TV shows to really appreciate it. The funniest moments are the obscure references that I realize only I and about a hundred other people know what the fuck they're talking about. Peter is not Homer Simpson. Somewhere along the line Homer grew up, Peter is still a 9 year old boy. Brian is Seth Macfarlane to Daniel Stern's Fred Savage. How's that for a reference?

It's formulaic, preventing it from having any longevity.

No cartoon show has made me laugh like South Park has.
Simpsons & Family Guy just aren't close to it in my opinon.

Cartman is too much.
He's the main reason I watch it.
But I think they are on another page when compared to these other 2.

I prefer American Dad to Family Guy actually.
And again, Stan is just sick, he makes the show.
The whole concept has more to offer than Family Guy to me.

With Family Guy, I find Stewie & Brian hillarious
But everything else is pretty dull and "Like The Time I..." gets real old to me.
Just don't really find Peter Griffin that funny to be honest.
The old man with his messed up dog that wants Chris is fucked though haha.
I like it, I'll watch it if it's on, just don't represent for it like alot of heads do.

And The Simpsons, I just don't bother watching anymore to be honest.
Homer & Mr. Burns still crack me up though.

Dr. Simon Hurt
09-21-2009, 10:06 AM
^^i agree on 'american dad' being better than 'family guy'...because they don't have the pop culture references and flashbacks to fall back on, they seem to work harder at making more perverse and subtle jokes.

i think 'family guy's' main problem, as time has gone on, is that it plays to the audience's expectation, so the comedy is alot more one-dimensional, predictable, and pandering...to the point where they even reference their own jokes and repeat certain gags and set ups. south park and the simpsons work against the audience's expectations both in terms of how jokes and plots play out, and also just the structure and formula of a given episode.

The Simpsons really haven't been funny for a while, however, their earlier seasons were untouchable. The Simpsons really should have stopped years ago it is exactly how Seinfeld would have panned out had they caved in to the money and continued making shows.

South Park is excellent at taking a current event or situation and extracting its flaws or highlighting politcaly correct gone too far.

I would probably take South Park over The Simpsons because I feel it has a been a more consistant show but it probably isn't fair to compare the two because they aren't the same.

I like Family Guy but it got to a point where it just became bland, ditto Futurama after about two seasons. I'm not sure if King of the Hill is supposed to be funny or not.
