Would like to hear some opinions of the beat konducta, Quasimoto, and generally what yall think about him. Personally I believe like Big L was he's way ahead of his time

The guy is the saviour of hiphop, one of the very few still doing it, the 2 quas albums are amazing, and the movies scenes are just unbelievable.

and cant forget liberation w/ talib kweli and madvillian!

Best "entire album" producer you could get to work on your album right now IMO.

one of the only producers really worth checking for right now, if not the only one

like said above the quas stuff is great, and cant forget champion sound! (maybe not overall, but on that album madlib > dilla on the beats... thats how dope he can be)

fa sho, i wouldn't say he's the best but without a doubt one of them, his "beat konducta" albums are great, the beats sound international

Lol you notice how much j dilla influenced him on the "Eye" track on madvillainy.

Id say its the other way around. When Dilla went to stones throw he adapted to the madlib sound a bit. I'd say they both kind of took lil things from each other actually.

^^ agree on that, both influenced each other that's for damn sure.

One of my favorite producers.. I'm glad people like Ghost, Mos Def, Erykah Badu have found out about him. He was on a recent issue of Wire/Fader (forgot which one). he was actually on the cover. If you are close to a Border's store they might have it.

This was the issue I was referring to:http://www.thewire.co.uk/issues/306/
It's the August issue but you might still find it at some bookstores/magazine joints.

madlib is one of the illest, his work on madvillian classic, his beat konducta shit classic, india has to be one of my favourite beat tapes ever.

But i agree him and Dilla are similar they both reflect each other skills, with the crazy chops and nasty drums

Madlib makes some amazing beats.

A little hit and miss at times to me.

Well, i'll qualify that, pretty much all his beats are dope, but some of them don't work great when rhymed over.

At times they just seem really hard to flow over well.

Hard to explain, but that's how i hear it.

I remember saying the shit on Soundpieces was some of my favourite production by him, and getting universally berated for it. I tentatively maintain that opinion though.

Hm, yeah, that's a weird combo, have to check it out.

That I can agree with in the sense that he goes outside of the hip hop genre a little much and it jus doesnt do anything for me

Pay him no heed, he used to adopt the same views as everyone else here but started trying to be "hard" recently in an effort to fulfill his yearning for attention.

To me some of the best cuts on CL2 were the ones with Dilla's beats, It would've been interesting if Madlib had let Raekwon listen to some his beats CD's. Madlib's knowledge of soul music is probably as deep as RZA's, so if Rae was looking for soulful beats for CL2, Madlib wouldn't be a bad producer to look up.

madlib's knowledge of soul music may be as deep as rza but that don't mean he can lace a beat like tha rza does feel me

My fave Madlib cd is Blunted In The Bomb Shelter. Its a reggae mix he did with albums from the Trojan label, plus Madlib introduced me to Grant Green a jazz guitar player. Anything mentioned on the Quas cd in terms of music should be explored. I think theres a skit where hes in a record store. Sun Ra is awesome as well.

^^ I remember buying that at a Virgin Mega store a few years back.. so I'm pretty sure you've listened to his Mind Fusion series. A lot of great songs, just wished I had a track listing for some of those songs.

I'm going to throw it out there and say that i prefer Oh No in terms of beats with MC's rhyming over them.

But i think Madlib is a better producer.

Yeah he's a great producer. His work on Madvillainy is top notch, as well as on his Quasimoto albums. I dunno bout y'all, but I think that Sickfit instrumental on Madvillainy sounds like it could've came from the 36 Chambers recording sessions or something.

whats the madlib medicine show series?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madlib_Medicine_Show

Every volume is awesome. Odd numbered months are original music (3 and 11 are my favorites), and the even numbered months are DJ mixes (4 and 8 are the best in my opinion). Every volume is great though. They missed #9 with Frank Nitty, but it's coming out at the end of May according to the Stones Throw newsletter and a couple of other websites. I assume #12 will come out soon after that.

Madlib has also said that he plans on continuing the series after #12, which will be dope as hell. MED said on his twitter a while back that he gave Madlib enough tracks for a MEDicine Show, so hopefully that will end up being #13 or #15.

Madlib is a legend, and if you like him then you'll definitely like producer Shade Cobain who is the closest thing to Madlib out there right now.
