View Full Version : Old School Shit Recommendations
10-13-2009, 02:01 AM
Whats up yall. I'm an avid listener to underground hip hop; JMT, Non Phixion, AOTP, and all other cats under that umbrella. But my knowledge of old school shit is not the greatest. I recently heard the first Mic Geronimo album "The Natural", and I'm hooked on the old school, grimy new york sound. Can yall recommend anymore? For the record I'm already up on Black Moon, Smif-N-Wessen, Heltah Skeltah, and Wu. Any cats similar would be much appreciated though.
check out my blog for lots of dope 80', 90's and 00's material (some rare and obscure joints on there too) I think you will enjoy it abanks47

check out the D.I.T.C. clique with it's solo members (Lord Finesse, Diamond D, Showbiz & AG, Buckwild, Fat Joe, Big L and OC) and you got classics for days - i own 30 albums from them.
Brand Nubian's four first albums plus Grand Puba's "Reel to Reel" and most of Sadat X's solo albums.
definitely M.O.P. with all their albums, might just be the greatest hip-hop group of all time next to the Clan.
KRS-One's three first albums under own name is brilliant imo, haven't really peeped his BDP work besides "Criminal Minded" though but heard that's good shit.
Freddie Foxxx with the "Industry Shakedown" album is just a MASTERPIECE!
A Tribe Called Quest's first four albums, basically anything they released is worth checking out though. one of hip-hop's finest discographies if you ask me.
All of the Gang Starr albums plus Group Home's "Livin Proof" and Jeru The Damaja's two first joints - both produced by DJ Premier.
check out Screwball's "Y2K" album and Blaq Poet's solo joints.
and loads and loads of other great music for you to discover.
