Back to the topic of beating children, like i said before, beating them is wrong. If i had children, i wouldn't beat them. I would just put them on punishment when they act up and i would have a talk with them to let them know right from wrong. Because i'm telling ya'll when kids become adults, they will hate their parents for beating them and they'll end up not having a relationship with their parents anymore. I'm glad i'm not a kid anymore because i used to hate my dad when he spanked me. Our relationship is a little bit better now that i'm grown. First if any of our black leaders were here today, they'd be fighting to rectify the situation not tarnish or throw salt on it like you are. I believe parenting must be both stern and friendly. You can't just be your kid's friend. They need to respect you. No amount of punishment will earn respect. You must earn your kids respect and friendship. Punishment instills fear, fear leads to distrust. Your kid needs to trust you.

I'm going to have my kids carry their own weight, get a job as soon as they can, play sports, eat healthy, read, and most importantly do well in school. OK so lets use your example. McDonalds, Walmarts and all other big label chains. First we have to consider how many of these chain stores are in an area heavily populated by "Ignorant" blacks. If all of the people who are being considered ignorant stopped doing what they were doing, would they all be elligable for a job? No they would not, I do not think it would come close helping out those. Also, this may just be a Cali thing, but I've never seen a Walmart in a black neighborhood. If somebody is at a low income level where it is hard to even support themselves, they should be smart enough not to be having kids anyway. Around here, there are shopping centers close by to low income areas where people can easily walk or take the bus to go there for work. If a person is struggling to make it on their own, they could apply for some type of low income housing/rental assistance. Several of those housing assistance places could be in a bad neighborhood, but I'm sure there are ones that are in a decent or half decent place, which would be preferable.

No, I wasn't referring to living an entire life in poverty. Only work the mininum wage thing until something better comes along in the future. Work your way up to a manager at the store or fast food place if you have to. Get an education. Do a trade. There are various possibilites. Postive education creates constant elevation. I believe parenting must be both stern and friendly. You can't just be your kid's friend. They need to respect you. No amount of punishment will earn respect. You must earn your kids respect and friendship. Punishment instills fear, fear leads to distrust. Your kid needs to trust you.

If (presuming I have kids in the future) my kid steals or something I'm not going to take away his allowance or tell him he can't hang out with his friends, I'm going to make him doing something long hard and unpleasent, and I'm going to do it right along side him.

If you stop I'm going to tell you that you're letting me down. Shame is always a better tool then anger. They finish in an hour exhausted and they've learned something, they also learned that im going to take responsibility for their actions and they have to as well. They don't want me to think poorly of them, and they don't want me to suffer because of their own foolishness. At the end I'd tell him good work and ill tell him to ask me for five dollars and ill give him those five dollars. Positive reinforcement at the end. It says "you did something wrong, but you took the punishment like a man and you're better for it." He's not going to do it again.

He acts out in school, we're going on a jog. A long jog, no breaks, water at the end. Military discipline. It's not about killing people its about taking responsibilty for your decisions and as a result doing what you're told and doing what's right.

I'm going to have my kids carry their own weight, get a job as soon as they can, play sports, eat healthy, read, and most importantly do well in school. I never developed a particularly competitive drive. I play sports as something to do, not to win. I want kids who want to win and put work into everything they do. Yes, I was a bum but I had dreams to be something more than staying at home with a mother who I was taking care of at 16. I was thinking about how I could get out of Detroit, MI and move my family and I to a better place. The girls, Jordans, name brand clothes and cars weren't relevant at that time for me. But since I'm a black man, people always told me that I wasn't going to be anything, including my family members.

Well, now, I'm in college, about to graduate in the Spring/Summer of 2010 majoring in Geology (pretty much finished, just my math courses to go). I live on my own, I have MONEY in both my checking and savings accounts, a job, etc.
