Earlier tonight, select media were invited to attend a listening session for Bone Thugs~N~Harmony’s reunion album Uni 5: The World’s Enemy, which is slated for release on Warner Bros. on December 22nd. Stationed in one of the engineering rooms at Legacy Studios in midtown New York City, four of the five original members of the Cleveland-based group (Bizzy Bone was unable to make it) played 13 tracks for the tightly packed room, with Krayzie Bone kicking off the session by explaining, “I don’t know who the fuck made this list,” referring to the track list passed out to those in attendance. “We recorded over 67 songs for the album,” added Layzie Bone, later explaining that they mainly stuck with underground producers like DJ-Uneek because their tracks were just as fresh as those of the big names.
But as the group played through the tracks (Wish Bone was seated in a hallway outside the studio, though he could be seen throughout the album’s play), it quickly became clear that the guys are going to have a rough time paring down the tracks to the final cut. The tracks played for the room showed that Bone Thugs are as tight as ever, with a few cuts capturing that classic Bone Thugs sound and others employing a fresh, new style that the group has dubbed “universe,” which Layzie explained as having the group sharing a 16 on a song instead of having each member get their 16 to shine. Showing Out was there to take notes, so hit the jump to get a sneak preview of the 13 tracks that Bone Thugs~N~Harmony played.

No More (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21mbO7y8wWs)
The group explained that this track already leaked, so it might not make it onto the final cut of the album. But for those that haven’t heard the track already, it boasts an epic, pounding beat that features three straight-up rapped verses and a hook where they taunt their foes, “Don’t you come round here no more.”
My Life
Piano trills set off “My Life,” which floats along on a swinging, thwacking beat. This is Bone Thugs doing what they do best, seesawing between rapid flows that offset the languid pace and off-rhythm, relaxed flows. The guys take turns rapping and singing on the verses before easing up and letting the chorus rock.
See Me Shine featuring Lyfe Jennings, Jay Rush and Phaedra (http://www.zshare.net/audio/670107913c42ed11/)
This was the more spiritual, soulful type track that features R&B singer-songwriter Lyfe Jennings, his brother Jay Rush and Phaedra. The song features choppy, sharp synths that give way to a pumping beat that’s crowded with layers of horn synths. The highlight of the track is the inspirational choir coming in at the end of the track, all while the guest singers ask, “Why they wanna hate on me / Why they wanna steal my shine?”
What Have We Done to the World
The guys explained that this song was recorded the day after Michael Jackson passed, and though they said that sample clearance issues would most likely prevent this from making the final cut, they said they would find a way to get it out to the public regardless. The track samples MJ’s “Earth Song,” starting off with a spoken word quote from the King of Pop where he says, “Black artists have been taken advantage of” in the music industry, soon giving way to a breezy track that digitizes the line “What have we done to the world” from “Earth Song.” Each of the guys takes a turn spitting their verses, breaking down after each 16 before finally riding out on a mashup between the track and their classic “Crossroads.”
Cradle to the Grave
Layzie Bone explained that this track was “on some rider shit,” coasting on a down South beat and tinny drums. As the song played out, the dudes lit up at the front of the room, passing the blunt back and forth to one another as the chorus blared, “We gon’ take it from the top of the stage / From the cradle to the grave.”
The Game Ain’t Ready
Layzie introduced this track by stating that “hopefully, this will take us to the sports world.” With a machine gun beat pummeling along with bloopy synths underneath, each member takes turns on this one, repeating over regal horns, “The world ain’t ready, the game ain’t ready / Opposition ain’t ready.”
Meet Me in the Sky featuring K-Young
This track showed more of the softer side of Bone thugs, with airy synths, stadium-sized drums and shaky electric guitars coalescing for an emotive soundscape. K-Young’s tenor vocals carry this joint, which isn’t their best work but will resonate with fans.
Gangsta’s Glory
“This song is exactly what it says it is,” said Krayzie, before the engineer cued up the five-minute track. Over a slithering bass line and dusky, ominous piano chords, the gang warns all the young folk about the dangers of street life, with the chorus scolding, “Now I’ma break it down and tell a little story / Gangsters don’t live that long.”
Universe
The room seemed to be in agreement that this was the best of the bunch, and without a doubt, it was. Blaring horns, a sunny melody, organ notes and glib keys beam beneath the group as they flex their “universe” style, which has no one member outweighing another. Instead, vocals are layered on top of one another as certain voices come in and out of the mix, making for a delightful, speaker-knocking jam. The guys even namecheck their new style, singing, “Universe / One verse, five’s the best.”
Everytime
Possibly the second-best track played during the session, “Everytime” has a celebratory feel with its clicking snares and shifting pace. On the tune, the guys sing, “Every time that I turn around / These biters tryna take our sound.” It ain’t easy being Bone Thugs.
Determination
“We lettin’ everybody know out there that if you’re determined to make it, you will make it,” explained Krayzie before playing the track. For over five minutes, the song cruises along with relaxed guitars that lead into a knocking, breezy groove, replete with a fat, plucking bass. The song is as inspirational as its title suggests, encouraging listeners never to give up on their dreams.
Facts Don’t Lie
This was the shortest track of the bunch, and it came with some of the most fiery lyrical venom of all the songs. Over a burning bass line, the group refutes their irrelevancy by stating that they’re a part of history, and that facts don’t lie.
Let Ya Self Go (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZb73y2nieY)
The last song of the session, “Let Ya Self Go” concluded the album with that signature Bone Thugs~N~Harmony sound, with a delicate chipmunk sample playing background to the mysterious and atmospheric synths at the forefront. Not a bad way to end - and you can listen to the track in the link above to get a taste for yourself. Bone Thugs~N~Harmony are back.

Bone Thugs N Harmony: Flesh-N-Bone, Bizzy Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone
The often imitated but never duplicated Grammy-award winning rap group Bone Thugs & Harmony (BTNH) held a press conference and a listening party in Los Angeles recently to announce the reunion of all five original members of the group (Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone and Flesh-N-Bone) plus their first full album together, UNI 5: The World’s Enemy, which will be released on December 15 through their imprint, BTNH Worldwide/Warner Bros.

Bone Thugs are one of hip-hop’s most commercially successful acts, with 50 million albums sold worldwide.
Krayzie was the first to chime in on the new album “It’s all new material. Anything that we would have done before would be absolute. It’s a whole new experience (with all five members back) and you’re getting all new material.”
http://live.drjays.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Bone-video.jpg (http://live.drjays.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Bone-video.jpg)
Bone Thugs on the set of their new single, “See Me Shine”
Layzie also talked about a new style that Bone developed called uniVERSE. “We developed a unique style of flow. Instead of each one of us spitting 16 bars, we figured out how to use all five of us within 16 bars, which is a very intricate process”.
Layzie and the rest of the group kept mentioning the importance of Flesh being back in the fold. Flesh was incarcerated for nine years for an assault charge in a California correctional facility. “We made many attempts to bring the group back together. It was us knowing that Flesh was coming home that ignited the unity. Flesh is the eldest member. Flesh was strong enough to carry the name of Bone through the California Penal System. We had to show Flesh that we were a unit and now that he is back we can show the world that we are united.”

The group’s classic debut album, E. 1999 Eternal
Wish Bone continued by saying, “It is the unity that we lacked. Think about how a song is composed and how we make or music. Flesh being back allows us to make music that we couldn’t do before”.
Krayzie also talked about how jumping ship from Interscope to Warner was integral to this project. “Interscope wanted the project to sound a certain way and basically told us it was either their way or the highway. By the blessings of God, we got out of our contract and we went to Warner, who gave us the creative control that was needed for us to make this process a success. We made this a Bone album. We went back and got some of the producers that Eazy E put us around like DJ Unique, LT Hutton, Thin C, etc. But this album will be all Bone. No big name producers, no nothing. It’s all Bone. No features. A beat is a beat. We make the beat!”
Asked about the maturation of the five-man chemistry of Bone, Bizzy said: “I don’t think it’s about maturity. We breathe music, we eat music, we live music. Those 30 year old’s who listened to Bone 17 years ago still can listen to Bone. We are forever young. We are a fountain of youth. Every time you hear “Thuggish Ruggish Bone”, you gonna remember that exact moment when you first heard that song and its going to sound exactly the same as it did 20 years ago.”
After the press conference, Bone had a listening session to preview some of their tracks for their album. They haven’t selected official songs or titles, but from what we heard we can tell you the production is stellar and Bone Thugs and Harmony are back and on top of their sound.

Last night, a reunited Bone Thugs-N-Harmony gathered a small group of journalists and industry folk in NYC's Legacy Studios to get an advance listen to some of the tracks from their forthcoming reunion album Uni 5: The World's Enemy. Though Bizzy Bone was unable to attend the session, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone and Flesh-N-Bone held it down for their missing member by running through 13 cuts from the 67 that they recorded for their comeback effort, which sees the group reuniting for the first time since 2000's BTNHResurrection. Sharing a blunt and lighting cigarettes behind the control board, the group explained that they enlisted the help of underground producers like DJ-Uneek for this album, which ranges from the excellent “Universe” and “Everytime” to the more standard Bone Thugs fare “Let Ya Self Go” and “Cradle to the Grave.” The quintet even paid homage to the King of Pop on “What Have We Done to the World,” which boasts a sample of MJ's “Earth Song” and kicks off with a spoken word sample where Jackson discusses how black artists like himself and James Brown “have been taken advantage of” by the industry. But in spite of all the drama, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are ready to take back on the music game, with their ninth album slated for a December 22nd release on Warner Bros. Records.

http://static.hiphopwired.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/BONE1.jpg "It's both, it's a place where you can rehabilitate but it's also a warehouse. Because mind you, that place is there for a reason. You got real live monsters that deserve to be there that committed crimes that are absolutely heinous. They are never gonna see the light of day and they are there forever and for a reason."
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is gearing to release their long awaited unified front, Uni5: The World's Enemy, which will be dropping on December 22nd. Speaking with Hip-Hop Wired, Krayzie spoke on the conception of their latest album saying,“Flesh was locked up for ten years, he just came home. As everybody knows Bizzy Bone was away from us for a while. Flesh came home and we just felt the need…it was going to happen regardless. We felt the need to come back together and give the world that Bone magic that we brought to the world years earlier. It was like a must. The whole concept of the album, Uni5: The World's Enemy… the unifying came from us being back unified and the world enemy concept came from we always felt like we was always outcasts. Being apart from whatever was going on in the world or what everybody else was doing. It also has a spiritual meaning, being no part of the world. It's a lot of different meanings of it.”
http://static.hiphopwired.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Flesh1-227x300.jpg (http://static.hiphopwired.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Flesh1.jpg)
Flesh-N-Bone also spoke about his prison stint and how the process was getting back into the mix with his brothers.“It was something that while I was away I was avail to the resources that we had in there. I was never out of the loop with respect to my artistry, being creative. I was able to do music, write music, write the beats and be active for the most part and develop my craft. I had a lot of time to sit and develop me, work on, what I consider…what I'm on this earth to do. I was able to concentrate a whole lot on that so the transition from the pen to out here was fairly simple, because my cell was my booth, literally.
I had my own cell hooked up like a studio. And it was like that for the whole time I was down so when I came home and got in the studio it was like I never left. No problem whatsoever. It wasn't about trying to find nothing, it was already there. The only thing that I had to develop was me and the guys being back together collaborating and getting used to each other's energies and our vibes again.”
Flesh also spoke about what his time in jail, after serving close to ten years for assault with a deadly weapon, will bring to his music and subject matter as well.“It informed, it fueled, it gave me insight because I was really able to study Hip-Hop, study music appreciation. I was able to advance and broaden my own awareness to the craft. We pretty much, bring to it the whole essence of the artistry. It's about the art and when you dealing with art and society you got a vast stream of conditions that have to be addressed and talked about. From having fun to partying to the drugs to drug addiction… Overcoming a drug addiction, incarceration. Human development on so many plateaus that gives us the longevity that we have. Really implementing what it means to be an artist. It's a huge responsibility and yes being in the penal system kind of gave me experiences to add to the melting pot.”
http://static.hiphopwired.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/fleshnbonesnchildren-1.0.0.0x0.600x449-300x224.jpg (http://static.hiphopwired.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/fleshnbonesnchildren-1.0.0.0x0.600x449.jpg)
Keeping it all the way real, Flesh put a different light on the holding pen that many MCs glorify and made it clear that it's no place he wants to return to. When asked if he thinks that the penal system rehabilitates or if it's just a warehouse for people that have made certain choices in their lives, he responded,“It's both, it's a place where you can rehabilitate but it's also a warehouse. Because mind you, that place is there for a reason. You got real live monsters that deserve to be there that committed crimes that are absolutely heinous. They are never gonna see the light of day and they are there forever and for a reason. That's why they got that place and unfortunately I had to mingle amongst these monsters and survive amongst these monsters. The main thing they covet the most is having a release date and only 40% of the people in there got a release date.
The other 60%, that's their home. They also created programs to where even those people that are there, the people that have a release date, if they choose to, the only way you're going to rehabilitate is if you put the foot forward and you get it yourself. Other than that they're just there to waste their time and do their time and just get on so it goes both ways, yes and no.”
Wish Bone also summed up the album declaring that Uni5 will inspire those that will listen. He added,“We don't rap about cars, broads and chains. Our music is a message. We look at ourselves as messengers for the Lord. We always speak on what's going on in the world and what's happening right now instead of just the glimmer and the shine. Since we a voice of power, we have to send out that message to let people know what's really going on. If you're blessed with a gift to be heard, you definitely have a responsibility to give truth and spread light on real life situations through the music.”
http://static.hiphopwired.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/bone-thugs-300x150.jpg (http://static.hiphopwired.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/bone-thugs.jpg)
In related Bone Thugs-N-Harmony news, the trendsetters who put Cleveland, Ohio on the Hip-Hop map also spoke on their mentor Eazy-E about his alleged death of AIDS with Angela Yee on Sirius's Shade 45 radio program. Sparing no words on, Layzie stated,“It might be allegedly the way he picked the sh*t (AIDS) up. I got my own theories. It was crazy because we were here in New York in December (1994) and E bought us coats. We went out that night and n*ggas got a little sick with the weather change. Went back to hot L.A. He went in (to the Dr.) for the common cold, pneumonia, or whatever it was which was in January…he had the common cold and then diagnosed with pneumonia. In February, diagnosed H.I.V. positive and March full blown AIDS… Dead.
So it happened kind of fast so I'm kind of thinking who the f*ck's doctor did he go to. I think it was Jerry Heller's doctor (Eazy's former business partner) that he went to and he had just got fired so I'm like this looks…Conspiracy”
Krayzie also chimed in, saying,“We all done seen people with full blown AIDS and when they're about to die and how they look. Dude had full blown AIDs and still had his weight, still cocky and still looking like a regular dude and it just came about all of a sudden.”
Layzie also pointed out,"He was wrestling with Big Wish… so the dude was strong, cocky and built like a lil' tank so it's just theories. After we learned about the whole AIDS thing and learned that it could be possible (looking healthy with H.I.V.) but…”
“It still gotta be a downhill process and it just happened too fast to me,” Wish added.
Stay tuned to Hip-Hop Wired for our upcoming featuring with Hip-Hop's Fab 5. Check out their latest single below “See Me Shine” as well as the video of the speaking on Eazy-E.

ima check this album for sure... i don't dislike this group and i like the diversity they bring to the table but a serious question... in all honesty:
who wants to sound like bone? they say everybody wanna rap & sound like them... examples?

imo everyone wanna sound like the next one hit wonder mc with a wack ass flow and cant expand beyond 3 topics in they subject matter (unless you a real emcee that stays true to themselves) so im not insulting Bone but really... who?
