I saw Syl Johnson, The Notations and Renaldo Domino at the 9:30 Club last night. Incredible fucking show. A bunch of forgotten legends, some of whom hadn't preformed in over 3 decades. It was really the best of Chicago soul all in one room. I already loved Syl and Renaldo Domino but didn't really know what to expect from The Notations, but they blew me away. They couldn't have been smoother and really have a sound that you just don't hear anymore.

Syl has been sampled by a lot of the hip-hop greats including Wu, NWA, De La Soul, Public Enemy...etc but our generation really gives the man zero respect. Anywho, if you want to hear some fantastic soul look any of these dudes up.

I didn't even know Syl Johnson was still performing.

Would no doubt have been a great show.

He sang "shame on a n***a who try to run game on a n***a" over the horns on Different Strokes that rza sampled, and, throughout his set, repeatedly talked about how wu made his pockets fat.
