Forgot to mention this in the albums that got shelved thread but definately one I was checking for back in 2001. Turns out alot of it ended up on The Root's album Phrenology (2002). But I do remember reading he did a track with Rakim for the album, so hopefully we'll be hearing that too soon!

yeah but it seems to be leaking now track by track. "Hardware"(produced by DJ Krush) came out years ago as the first single then last month "The Professional" leaked now we have "Mona Lisa" and one or two of the tracks ended up on Phrenology , as mentioned in that albums liner notes...wouldnt be suprised if the whole thing gets leaked by years end

Nothing unbelievable in that, The Roots are well known Wu fans.

Still, first I've heard of it.

From mtv.com: "The difference between a Black Thought album and a Roots album is the texture, the instrumentation," the rapper said recently. "The Roots albums are completely live instruments; the Black Thought album is different [types of] production." Among other producers cutting tracks for Masterpiece Theatre which will feature no live instruments are Pete Rock; Slum Village's Jay Dee; Japanese trip-hop master DJ Krush, who produced the "teaser" single "Hardware," which came out in November; and Scott Storch, the Roots' original keyboardist, who provided the riff on Dr. Dre's 2000 hit "Still D.R.E." Also behind the boards are Hedrush, who produced several tracks on Dead Prez's Let's Get Free; Rockwilder, who produced the Mos Def-Pharoahe Monch-Nate Dogg collaboration "Oh No," from the various-artists album Lyricist Lounge 2; and Philly's Chaos.

^ damn, i would love to get my hands on the full album.. that producer line-up is fucking sick and although i do love The Roots and their live instrumentation it would be totally incredible to hear a full album of Black Thought rhyming over nothing but sample-based beats (which i personally believe is the heart and soul of hip-hop music).

I know I was amped for the album back in 99-2000 when it was announced. I remember an article in the November '99 issue of the Source (which had Mos Def Pharoahe and Black Thought on the cover and Q-Tip on another version alone) that said the album was going to have crazy features, I dont remember a mention of Wu-Tang or Big Pun like dude said before but I remember he was doing a track with Rakim (who said Black Thought was his favorite MC). Pharoahe Monch also had an album called The Sun Will Rise that never came out...
From 2002:
Pharoahe Monch has a hit on his hands via his collaboration with the LOX's Styles, "The Life," and is ready to smack the masses with a barrage of other bangers as soon as his new LP, The Sun Will Rise, comes out. The Queens MC said he's not sure exactly when that will be, however his label Rawkus is still working out the kinks with MCA on a distribution deal.
"Oh my god, it's crazy," he said of the album. "It's gonna breathe a breath of fresh air into hip-hop. My mission is for people to be like, 'OK, he's not afraid. You can tell, he's having fun.' I love an album where you can tell, like 'This n----- had a ball in the studio.' [The music is] hardcore. It ain't thug hardcore, but it's old school hardcore, in the sense of a n----- rhyming over some hot ass, hard sh--."
Monch said Rockwilder, the Megahertz and DJ Scratch are among the producers on the LP's roster, and he's eyeing the Roots' Black Thought to appear on a song.

Black Thought is a ill mc but i bet if Masterpiece Theatre would've came out, it probably would've sucked because of the beats. That's why i stopped liking The Roots after Things Fall Apart album.
