I came across this recently, http://www.mania.com/so-now-its-vulture-spiderman-4_article_119370.html. If it's true I like the idea of the Vulture being the villian. Add on...

Not sure what to make of this news but IESB is reporting that SPIDER-MAN 4 has been put on hold indefinitely at Sony Pictures. According to IESB's sources, production heads were notified late last week about the delays. They claim that they key sticking point is once again a battle between Sam Raimi and the studio over the film's villain. As you may have read, Raimi wants Vulture (and Vulturess?) as the villains in the film but Sony allegedly is having a problem with that decision. Who do they want? IESB says that the Sony execs don't even really have a viable alternative, they just know they don't want Vulture.

So what now? Well the holidays are fast approaching and it's very likely that any work on the film would be halted anyway. It's entirely possible that Raimi and Sony are having disagreements (they certainly did with SPIDER-MAN 3 where Raimi wanted Vulture over Venom) and that they'll take the next few weeks to hammer out the finer details.

While I know IESB has solid sources, let's hope this is just getting blown out of proportions and things will get back on track shortly. Or not. Call me crazy but I was never really all that excited about a SPIDER-MAN 4 anyway...

im siding with Sony with this atm but please do not make felicia hardy fucking vulturess.

The Vulteress sounds corny to me.. I have no problem with The Vulture though, so as long as it has a good story. Unlike SM3, which seemed to have been rushed & made Venom real cheesy. Venom deserved to have his own turn as the main villian. Morbius would be cool too.

lizard, kraven, morbius, rhino, electro. spideys got plenty of decent rouges. why choose the lamest of the lame.

I personally thought that Spider-man 3 was the best film out of all three. I have no doubt that Spider-man 4 will be even better, in my opinion. I just hope that The Lizard will be in the movie along with Venom.

I thought Felicia Hardy was Black Cat.

And they need to put Lizard in the freaking movie already. They set that up in the first movie upon finding out that his professor is Dr. Connors. Pretty obvious!

Our Spidey sense is tingling.

Just a few months ago, Tobey Maguire told us he was ready to don the Spider-Man suit again in March for the film's fourth installment, which was looking at a May 2011 release.

Now it looks like Spider-Man 4 is facing a foe worse than Doc Ock: a rejected screenplay.

Somewhere along the line, Marvel's record-breaking franchise hit a huge snag, reports Hollywood insider Nikki Finke. Director Sam Raimi is reportedly dissatisfied with the Spider-Man 4 script thus far, and without a script, filming on the long-awaited movie has been put on the back burner.

Sources tell Finke it's unlikely the originally scheduled release date will be made, but attempts are being made to secure a summer 2011 opening—although the franchise has traditionally hit theaters in the coveted May spot.

While Sony didn't directly confirm the delay, the studio did hint that it could be a while, telling E! News: "We are completely committed to the Spider-Man franchise and know audiences will find the next film worth the wait."

We'll take that as a yes.

The latest Spidey sequel is proving villainously difficult to plot out.

Sony and director Sam Raimi are at loggerheads over which direction to go with the villains for the latest installment -- an impasse which has prompted the studio to delay its scheduled spring production start and potentially to bump the pic from its May 11, 2011 release slot.

Raimi wants to have a criminal known as the Vulture act as the primary antagonist in the film while the studio, which dislikes the idea of the winged wrongdoer, is pushing for a romantic sub-plot involving a burglar named the Black Cat in addition to another villain.

A succession of writers has tried to marry the two parties' differing visions to no effect.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire ("Rabbit Hole") was hired in October 2008 to pen a key version of the screenplay, on top of the earlier version penned by James Vanderbilt ("Zodiac"). Last year, Sony brought in Gary Ross -- Oscar-nominated for his adapted script on 2003's "Seabiscuit" -- which he also helmed.

Alvin Sargent is penning the latest iteration.

Word of the Sony-Raimi conflict first surfaced mid-December on genre Web site IESB, but at the time Sony denied the report, saying tweaking of the script was "nothing unusual."

The differing views about the villain have their origins in the making of "Spider-Man 3."

Raimi, a fan of the wall-crawling super-hero since the character's 1960s debut, wanted to use classic villain Vulture in addition to Sandman, another classic creation, for that movie. The studio pushed him to use Venom, a character that was introduced in the late 1980s, because it thought that character, with its slick alien-symbiote origin, would lend itself to more effective marketing material and a way to attract "the kids."

"Spider-Man 3," while ensnaring $890 million in its worldwide web, turned out to be reviled by both the fanboy community and by many critics. In addition to a hefty paycheck, Raimi purportedly returned to helm the fourth installment in order to leave the series on a high note.

Production still could begin by this summer. While Sony insiders maintain the pic still could remain in its current release date, a shift to a date later in summer 2011 may be more likely considering the lack of a final script for the visual effects-driven project.

That Wizard Masterpiece Edition book that came out a few years ago was really good. Death of Jean DeWolfe, Kid Who Collected Spider-Man, the Juggernaut story, the Return of Venom.
