top 5, top 10, top 25, top 50, top 100, no mention?

overall i'd put him in the top 25, but if we are talking strictly emcee'n skills he's probably top 10 realistically

01-05-2010, 04:21 PM
top 20 perhaps, but he would be way higher if he did more straight hip hop shit. im not a fan of that rock shit.

He would definitely be in my top 50..maybe squeeze in a top 25 appearance for creativity and emcee skills like you say. But after The Ecstatic dropped and Auditorium became my favourite song of '09, along with a few other gems like History with Talib.. his position might move up a little.

Great Emcee and i respect him for how much he worships MF DOOM.. AS WE ALL SHOULD.

talent wise - top 3 of the last 20 years, pretty easily. Of all time I'd put him up there with Slick Rick and Lauryn Hill, Biggiie in new york for natural god given talent for rap.

unfortunately hes nothing like the force he used to be. but he was always an actor first anyway, he grew up acting, rapping came about in the end, but it was never his main thing in his mind.

I'd say top 20, dude got darts. I love that joint he did with Slick Rick.

mos ranks between the toliet bowl and my ass

easily top 10, maybe top 5 imo

BOSB and Blackstar are two classic hip hop albums. Ecstatic was one of my favourite albums this year, and lyrically as an emcee he is top notch. Some of his verses on Blackstar album just make shake your head and revel in the dopeness.

hes still one of my maybe 5 favorite rappers of all time..but as far as what hes doing RIGHT NOW? he really gotta wake up.

he in top top 10... if he was more focused on hip hop id say def top 5 and if he did more black on both sides shit or a more matured version of it he'd own hip hop.

he know where its at, i seen his interviews but he's great effortlessly and so i dont feel he puts forth the effort.

as a rapper, top 20 overall

but in recent years definetly top 5

for awhile, Mos Def and Rawkus were the epitome of "backpack" hip hop.

imo, a lot what they call "backpack" doesnt compare to Mos Def

yall need to spin the ecstatic again!!!!

he bodied that record... probably the closest thing to black on both sides well ever get from him, shit was dope!!!!!!

hes released some average shit.... and has a pretty short discography.... but he still has classics under his belt and is still active so theres potential for more!!!!!!

i cant see how a mos def fan is letdown by his new album though, production was right, his bars were right, concepts were right, shit was bangin!!!!!!!!

hes in my top 25 for what hes done...but i think he has (had) the skills to be one of the undisputed best ever if he stayed focused
