Just looking for some new albums that were considered timeless classics. I know I have most, I don't feel like listing them all, so if you put one up I have it won't matter. Running outta music to listen to so it's much appreciated any help I get.

I wont name the obvious ones of course.

M.O.P. - First Family 4 Life
AZ - Doe or Die
Jurassic 5 - Power In Numbers
Brand Nubian - Foundation
Black Star - Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star

The last two aren't really classics, but they're good to listen to.

I remember asking this question back in the Best of '09 thread, without a response:

are there any or many absolute classics of this year cosigned by a hip hop pioneer or respected group? There were great albums mentioned by people throughout the thread, but what is the standard which determines a timeless classic in 09-2010..

I think there are some released within this decade, but I'm curious to see what people list for '09, if any. Music journalism is more spotty nowadays due to the additional mass opinions of the world wide web, so the idea of "classic" seems like it doesn't hold as much weight as it used to before the net.

I nominate these, I have also read other reviews that call these albums classic

InI - Center Of Attention, Deda - The Original Baby Pa (recorded in 95 but re-released in 2000's on BBE)
Large Professor - The LP (re-release)

I've heard people mention Rae's Cuban Linx's 2 as a classic too. I'm sure there's other recent re-releases of legendary hip hop artists material you can find like Showbiz & AG's Broken Chains EP or Ed OG's unreleased material compilation.

Thanks for that one cap, that one was at the back of my mind as I thought about some good albums I listened to this year. I am looking around for a certified list of 2009 hip hop classics this morning

You answered your own question. A timeless classic must be, well, timeless. That's why we simply can't know which albums will hold up ten years from now.

Wera:

I thought about puttin' some CL down, but the closest thing to a classic from them in my IMO was Will Rap For Food. APOS was more well rounded, but Will Rap For Food and Southernunderground sounded way more hungry

Jedi Mind Tricks- Violent By Design
Non Phixion- The Future Is Now
MF Grimm- Scars and Memories\ the Downfall of Iblyis
Cunninlynguists- SouthernUnderground is there best work IMO

All the old OutKast shit is classic and Goodie Mobbs Soul Food to name a few and show love to the south
