View Full Version : Duckdown - the overlooked label dropping classics for years

02-02-2010, 03:16 PM
Can we show some fuckin love for duckdown? Endless BCC classics, I shouldn't even have to break it down, Smif and Wesson, OGC, Ruck and Rock - and in 09 modern classics were dropped by newer duckdown cats Skyzoo and Torae. Hottest tracks a nigga heard in 09 came from the duckdown fam.

only problem with them is that they use a lot of generic underground beats. (if that even makes any sense)

02-02-2010, 04:00 PM
yeah BCC has dropped allot of heat over the past 15 years and continue to drop shit with dope ass artists

02-02-2010, 04:03 PM
BCC in the 90's and early 2K = unfuckwittable....

nowadays they've slid a bit, but I still fucks wit em'...

02-02-2010, 04:17 PM
early 90's beatminerz was definitive east coast boom bap!!!!!!!!!

and sean price is still mashin!!!!!!!!!

that krs/buckshot album was one of my favorite joints of 09!!!!!!!!!!

enta da stage and dah shinin alone make duck down a legendary label!!!!!!!!!

big ups to buckshot and dru ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BCC is a dope collective of Brooklyn hip hop representatives. They redefined the character & sound of a street lyricist showin you don't have to rhyme about bustin yo gun literally to be dark and threatening, it's about how you project the power of your mind and persona in the lyrics.

only problem with them is that they use a lot of generic underground beats. (if that even makes any sense)

I couldn't help but think about the beats too famechuan, with Da Beatminerz they seemed to be on a roll with the original sound they brought on Enta, but Evil & Walt seemed to fall back a little over time.

I would've liked to hear the outcome if Beatminerz had handled the bulk of the beats across the board for a longer time, like RZA to Wu, Dre to Aftermath, Sean P & Buck have made good choices at bringing in newer sound though.

torae is ill.

peace be with you !

I dissagree about the beats sounding generic, beatminerz definetly have their own sound like any of your favorite producers, now 9th wonder does a lot of duckdown production and marco polo puts a new twist on the classic new york sound.

Do NOT sleep on new duckdown shit either

edit: are the videos i tried to post showing? my internet sucks i can't tell, and if not then how the fuck do you embed

"I would've liked to hear the outcome if Beatminerz had handled the bulk of the beats across the board for a longer time, like RZA to Wu, Dre to Aftermath, Sean P & Buck have made good choices at bringing in newer sound though"

I feel you, Beatminerz always had a great sound with BCC, the brothers brought out the best in them. But I noticed they were always usually a BLACK MOON side project, sure after Stage thats when they introduced the other members, but most Black Moon albums were always fully or mostly produced by them (Stage & War Zone were fully produced by them, Total Eclipse they did 9 outta 15 tracks). Smif N Wessun was a special occasion, I guess they really wanted the same kinda sound the brothers did on Stage so all that work blossomed into Dah Shinin'. The other members only here & there ever used Beatminerz (extensively too) usually for their 1st round solos (sorta like RZA) and later abandoned them.

Heltah Skeltah's "Nocturnal" (8 outta 15 beats)
Heltah Skeltah's "Magnum Force" No Beatminerz
Heltah Skeltah's "DIRT" No Beatminerz

OGC's "Da Storm" (7 outta 12 beats)
OGC's "The M-Pire Shrikez Back" (1 outta 14 beats)

Smif-N-Wessun's "Dah Shinin'" (Fully Produced)
Smif-N-Wessun's "The Rude Awakening" (4 outta 14 beats)
Smif-N-Wessun's "Reloaded" (4 outta 15 beats)
Smif-N-Wessun's "The Album" No Beatminerz

BCC "For The People" No Beatminerz
BCC "The Chosen Few" (4 outta 13 beats)
BCC "The Last Stand" (1 outta 14 beats)

Buckshot's "BDI Thug" (2 outta 13 beats)
Ruck's "Moneky Barz" No Beatminerz
Ruck's "Jesus Price Superstar" No Beatminerz

who seen the passion of price dvd? its got about 5 or 6 homemade videos off monkey bars and the rest is ruck talkin about his past and why he's "the brokest rapper you know". he said when he was like 20 he was on the block sellin and his mom (aunt) came up to him in front of his friends and said "what you doin? sellin crack?" and pulled him away by his ear.

02-03-2010, 08:45 PM
wow gotta say im somewhat dissapointed in the lack of interest in a duckdown thread - this shit needs to be like 5 pages long. Mad overlooked

My cousins were always playing their shit growing up & put me on to BCC plus everything else related. I still have a lot of listening to do considering this is the labels track record:

I have a feeling that ruste juxx marco polo album is gunna go hard - anyone else check for ruste? He'll never be anyones favorite rapper but hes definetly a solid rugged emcee.

02-04-2010, 07:11 AM
^ word, i'm definitely looking forward to that Ruste Juxx/Marco Polo album, the one with Torae was slamming and the guestspots includes Bumpy Knuckles which definitely promises a ill cut.

Duck Down has grown to one of the finest underground/independent hip-hop labels over the last few years, all the Boot Camp shit mainly but also hot LP's from Skyzoo, KRS-One/Buckshot, Torae, Ruste Jaxx, B-Real, etc. i can't agree about the generic beats though, "The Salvation", "Survival Skills" and "Double Barrell" all had fucking ill production last year.

02-04-2010, 07:20 AM
Dope thread, I definitely have to do some catch up with Duckdown as I haven't checked them in a minute.
