I've somehow never gotten into rock.
The only bands I've checked out are RHCP, Nirvana & the sexpistols.
What else should I check out?

Rage Against The Machine - Start with their self titled
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Start with Murder Ballads (10 tracks and a body count of 64, lol :) Amazing both lyrically and musically)

uhh....what kind of rock? It's such a huge category with such diverse subgenres now that it's pretty meaningless to label or ask for just plain "rock" - unless you're referring to early rock n' roll.

Anyway, NO to Slipknot. Band sucks.

Added the wall to my library, I remember listening to it years ago, but I somehow deleted it.

Won't be able to add more tho, my computer broke and I'll probally lose it for 6 weeks (again...)

I've heard my dad about allot of artists mentioned in the thread so imma borrow a few cd's.

I'm actually the right person to ask about this, but I can't be bothered.

I listen to alot of obscure 70's acts, so I'm tryin to learn more about the contemporary groups, I'm glad to have read this thread to learn those new groups to check for.

I listen to Cream, Rare Bird, Vanilla Fudge, Iron Butterfly, Fat Matress, Styx, The Band, Little Feat., Fleetwood Mac, Camel, Triumvirat, Deep Purple, Gong, Procol Harum, Hendrix and other groups who mighta only put out a couple albums. I love the psych fusion sound brought by many groups of that era, with real interesting sounds and use of synths. I really like rock groups who had a funk edge to their sound like Rare Earth.

for contemp Rock recently I was listening to I like Iggy Pop's "Why Was I Born", that has dark energy and a threatening sound. For the more mellow stuff I like a song like Hero by Chad Kroeger feat Josey Scott or I'm Awake by The Goo Goo Dolls. I like some 80's rock too.

^^^Speaking of Styx, the Spice Girls of the 70's, listen to the Grand Illusion, incredible album front to back.

The two greatest "rock" bands of all time..

^One of Nirvanas main influences

If we're gonna go into art rock like Joy Division n shit, don't forget Swans. Early stuff is very heavy industrial/noise rock, but later stuff is very awesome mix of folk, blues, post-industrial, ambient, psychedelia, and a variety of other influences:

Cobain was also influenced by the Meat Puppets and Bowie. I've also wondered why Kurt is so revered when he wasn't that acoustically talented. I can see why he hated his fans.
