10/10 for me hands down. I was sold on Jay from day one. I only wish he would have kept his style as sharp and original as it was during that time. This is a classic LP for real hip hop fans.

8/10 - I disliked production on the 2nd half of the album. Songs as D'Evils and Dead Presidents ARE classics, no doubt.

It's a classic album to most it seems. It is his best album ever. He is very popular, so his best effort is gonna be considered a classic. I just think he is very overrated lyricly and bites to much. I try not to let my feelings about him now effect my rating of this album. However, I can't say for sure that they didnt. This album to me is 7/10 8/10 on lyrics, 7/10 on beats. So I can't pesonally call it a classic.

DR. NICK RIVIERA

I'm gonna say like this...a classic, but not his best work

HarlemDiplomat

Once again the word classic is being thrown around.

I think this album and Illmatic are in the same category. To me this album is not Jay's best material, he got better after this. I really didn't like Reasonable Doubt.

I can tell people are overshadowed by Jay's later work, which were crap, and it clouds their comprehension of realizing how his less known but best album reasonable doubt, is a classic.

its overrated no doubt. but still a real good album... with classic songs on it. like i said before.

The Lost Prophet
08-05-2007, 09:52 PM
on some real shit, the album is based on how u live ur life, if u sold drugs or were into drugs at one point then u will like this album way more...oh and lyrically, its solid, not some canibus shit, but this is real music and yes there is a difference...to me "rip the jacker" is a classic and hands down bis best but some would disagree and say cirriculum or 2000 b.c. was better because of the lyrics, but at the end of the day its about music. not all lyrical cats can make good music, this is good music and the lyrics r still ill, thats what makes it a classic album, balance...and the beats r fire for the most part

I disagree that his albums after Reasonable Doubt were shit. Vol. 1, BP, and BA were all great 4.5/5 albums.

however, I totally agree that this Reasonable Doubt is a definitive classic, plus the best hiphop album ever made and Im not being delusional with that statement. anyone who voted less than 10 has cuban linx up their asses.

Chungsanity

I gotta give a review to this:

Reasonable Doubt:

1. cant knock the hustle = perfect way to open up the masterpiece. real mellow beat and jay-z's flow is mesmorizing 5/5
2. politics as usual = same thing. the beat is real chills and jay-z's flow is impeccable 5/5
3. brooklyn's finest = I got respect for Big, but Hov murdered him on this. "scared so you sent your little mans to come kill me / but on the contrilli I packs the mack milli, squeezed off on him left the paramedics breathing soft on him." 5/5
4. dead presidents II = nas made it a hot line, but jay made it a hot song. 5/5
5. feelin it = perfect spliff song nuff said. 5/5
6. d'evils = prodigy/snoop's samples just murdered this alone, and jay is too much 5/5
7. 22 two's = one of the best conceptual tracks ever 5/5
8. can I live = my personal favorite track on RD. the isaac hayes sample is amazing 6/5
9. aint no nigga = nice party track but dont get it twisted, jay and foxy still kills it 4/5
10. friend or foe = nice role-playing, underrated track on the album = 4/5
11. coming of age = jay's flow is once again sick as hell. bleek isnt on jay's level but he still does well. 5/5
12. cashmere thoughts = really dope song with a classic line. "I'd never cry if I did I'd cry ice." 5/5
13. bring it on = all 3 kills this, nuff said. 5/5
14. regrets = perfect way to end it, with a mellow beat. introspective and deep. 6/5

overall: 5 mics outta 5, highly recommended

4.5/5.

It's a near classic to me. Ain't No Nigga stops it from being a classic to me that song is total trash in every way, but I still voted it classic because it is better than a banger.

If Ain't No Nigga wasn't on this LP I would probably put it in the top 10 all time. I used to like this album but these days I love this album.

CharlesJones
10-29-2014, 09:32 AM
I don't see anything wrong with Ain't No Nigga song. Foxy Brown's lyrics on it are nice and sexy. I wanted to fuck her back in the day and I still want her even though she's gained a little weight. I heard a interview she did on Youtube that's old and she said her and Jay-Z had sex. I can't say I'm surprised.

The Hound
10-29-2014, 12:06 PM
The beat sucks I think, it makes me skip the track every time. I don't like the hook either. I don't know, song seems out of place to me.

Can I Live is my favourite song on the album. I love the original Isaac Hayes song The Look of Love that it samples.

CharlesJones
10-29-2014, 12:22 PM
Ain't No Nigga hook is taken from The Four Tops song Ain't No Woman Like The One I Got. Jaz-O and a black woman who did the hook on Ain't No Nigga changed it up a little bit. Can I Live song is nice and I like the Isaac Hayes sample. My favorite song on Reasonable Doubt is Bring It On with Sauce Money and Jaz-O. I wonder why Jaz-O and Jay-Z aren't cool anymore. Jaz-O also has beef with Sauce Money because I've seen a interview on Youtube with Sauce Money dissing Jaz-O. Black men diss each other over the dumbest shit LOL.
