View Full Version : Is the fanatism for an US sport team as big as football (soccer)

I was wondering since I've never heard about a firm or a hardcore fanbase for a MLB , NFL or NBA team like they have for football (soccer) teams....

I don't think so. IMO, some of the soccer fans are a little too obsessed with a sport.

And that's what makes football (soccer) so great ! A loyal dedicated fanbase !

Yeah, I see what you're saying. But I just think it's messed up when some of the fans chant racist things to some of the players or when fans kill rival fans and stuff.

I don't see many sports games in the US where riots are happening in the stadiums, fires getting set, and a bunch of people getting killed, and fans doing the swatiska chomp while throwing bananas onto the field?

yes, i agree with you that our racism is more hidden here and that our killings our on an individual basis.

I don't think the US is as racist(openly or hidden) as some countries, such as Italy.

College Football is definitley as heavy in fanbase and rabid lunacy like Euro Futbol. There is immense tradition and love for college teams like euro futbol. I am a U of Michigan fan, and absolutely love football season for the commraderie, loyalty, and tradition of it. Soccer fans are nuts but it adds to the atmosphere of the game and I love watching euro futbol too. Professional sports fans are clearly not as nuts in the US though.

well the only thing my soccer team is known for is having the worlds loudest stadium. 30,000 ppl kicking up 140 decibels. iv been to a match in istanbul and its something else. nobody bothers watching the game, they chant their hearts out. its a damn show to be honest, the fans protest, they swear like crazy. its very organised chanting though.

the concept of supporting is different in Europe. we believe that you go to a game to support the team, not to watch.

you can relate it to the socio-economic situation of the fans in europe. fans get louder as you go into poorer nations. they support their teams soo much because in reality they have nothing else to do.

Agreed with that, some supporters in South America bring guns to games and look to gun down rival supporters, or other times they bring serious weapons like swords or chainsaws and look to do some serious damage.

The situation in England ain't as bad as what it used to be, which I'm glad about, but it can still get pretty violent depending on who's playing; for example, Millwall or Cardiff, not sure if you've heard of them. If you ever get the chance, pick up "The Football Factory", "I.D.", or "Rise of the Footsoldier" to see what it used to be like at football games, pretty hectic fucking stuff.

All in all, though, it is pathetic for people to be doing this. Grown men fighting each other in the name of a football team who could care less about them? Lmfao. I don't mind them actually doing it, it's just when they involve innocent people who only wanna watch the game without some moron who can't fight for shit throwing stuff and acting like an idiot.

football sometimes is just a platform for supporters. example in Italy look at Livorno, the fans follow a heavy socialist agenda. they get involved in many political activities, Livorno actually once went to Turkey to play a Turkish team in a friendly because that team also followed a socialist agenda. Lazio is the fascist team in Italy; Milan is the team of the middle-class Milanese, while Inter is the workers team.

when i went to watch my Turkish team play the stadium was full of anarchist signs, che guevera posters, and many political banners, like no nuclear power, basically communist shit (Armand Sickle would have loved it).

supporting a team aint just about watching a sport, in some countries its aligning yourself to a certain agenda. yes violence does follow this, couple years back 16 year old kid got killed in my teams stadium for having a keyring which was the colour of a rival team. violence is human nature, and when you have such a catalyst as sport it can erupt over the most unnecessary things.

Maybe they shouldn't allow so many people to over pack some of those stadiums and also have a greater amount of security there.

Meanwhile all the Green liberal puss bags would probably be chanting and tongue kissing on the opposing side..

I had never heard of communists firms before, and I thought almost all the italian hooligans were fascists lol. In france hooligans almost totally disappeared, execpt in Paris, and in marseille cause they gotta defend themselves when paris comes.
But yeah politic is involved, for example for the PSG (paris club) there are two firms, one of racist retards, and the other one of immigrants and youth from the projects, so even tho they're on the same team, these firms fight each other. The last time a dude died even tho the PSG were the only one allowed to have supporters. So yeah, its about more than just sport cause a lot of frustrated people use it to relieve tension and all.

Nickytooth, of course I am excited for the new season for u of M, and yes, you guys have dominated the last ten years, but you OSU fans have short term memories, Remember the 90's, we owned you then, so it's cyclical. One thing that is true though is that we have to win at least 8 this year, or Rodriguez will be fired, and it will probably take another three years to recover from the last three.

Olive Oil Goombah
04-16-2010, 04:44 PM
We had the better teams and talent in the 90's though.

The 90's success for Michigan was hiding the fact that they have lacked in recruiting and have had a ton of 4 and 5 loss seasons.

I would say that both teams have had a lot of talent over the last twenty years. We have produced alot of NFL talent over the last twenty years. Every Qb from Henne back to Grbac has played major minutes in the NFL, and braylon, Toomer, Streets. We have had consistent top ten recruiting classes for the last twenty years. Up until the last couple of years we have been pretty even, you guys have had the better coach though for the last ten. I would just say that talent has been even.

nickytooth, just name me Osu best players in the NFL. I can clearly say that Tom Brady is better than any QB to come from OSU. 3 Superbowl MVP's from him alone. Charles Woodson is still a top corner. Braylon is better than any OSU reciever, even with all of the drops. Oh, and in the last twenty years both schools have the same amount of National titles, 1. Your history can't match the number 1 fact that we will always have the most wins in college football. I wouldn't expect you to understand that with your OSU education, but I find it funny that you can't even give Michigan 1 compliment, when I can praise your coach, and team, and actually respect your program. That is the main difference between Osu retards and UM fans, we actually have class, and can admit when we aren't as good. You guys can't even beat an SEC team while we are 23-5-1 against them, 7-2 in the last ten years.

What do I have to be bitter about, most wins All-time, 11 national titles, countless NFL players to cheer for. We have been down for two years, I have nothing to be bitter about. I respect the OSU program, and you have had our number this decade, but I went back twenty years, and to you that is ancient history, I guess that proves my point on an OSU education. Don't compare me to a fuckin' Notre Dame fan. They have not won bowl since '91. UM and OSU have had the same amount of National Titles since then.
