From the official press release:

"LEGENDARY PICTURES TO DEVELOP AND PRODUCE MAJOR MOTION PICTURE BASED ON TOHO COMPANY’S ICONIC MONSTER, GODZILLA

Burbank, CA – March 29, 2010 – Legendary Pictures announced today that they will develop and produce a new film based on Toho Company’s famed GODZILLA character. Through the terms of the agreement, Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to produce a movie inspired by Toho’s Godzilla, a franchise the Japanese company created and has nurtured for over fifty years.

Toho’s GODZILLA franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, resulting in a series of books, television programs, video games and more than 25 films worldwide. Legendary intends to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible. The company will, in the near future, announce a filmmaker to helm the film for an intended 2012 release. The film will fall under the company’s co-production and co-financing deal with Warner Bros. Toho will distribute the film in Japan."

I really hope they don't fuck it up this time.

Why you hatin?...I've been dying to see a proper big budget Godzilla flick for the longest time. Godzilla deserves a better hollywood treatment. That bullshit flick from before is no way to leave your mark on western audiences.

i agree that the one with broderick was disguistingly bad, but besides the fact that im not a fan of remakes in general there are enough Godzilla films done by toho to keep me entertained. and i doubt its gonna be good.

They just keep rebooting films. Why is it so hard for them to get it right?

Pretty much a modern day Godzilla story line. I think pacific rim action sequences were better ..but I think this one played more into the old school fight scenes.. 7/10. I'd maybe rent it once or twice.. And I'm a huge Godzilla fan

How is the film?

The scenes with "Godzilla"were epic.
But apart from that I feel they failed to make me care about the family it circled around.
Especially after like the 1st Act? *scratches head*

Big pay off at the end which kinda saved it.

"Pacific Rim" delivered on what it set out to do in my opinion.
However, I can't say this film did, all be it a different style, the balance was way off.

I thought it was great little bit of drama and a lot of darkness. I think they had to reintroduce Godzilla this way. Apparently the film did so well they confirmed a sequel so chances are they'll get right into the action in the second one.

Comments make me wanna watch it. Thanks for the update on the film! First American reboot had some horrible acting. Action sequences were okay.

^^ I thought without the last half hour it was poor.

But that last scene was kinda sick though.

I was falling asleep.

Not enough Godzilla.

The other creatures looked corny.

This movie was subpar for me. Too much drama and not enough monster fighting.

And Pacific Rim still had better action sequences than this.

This was all smoke and mirrors

Good movie. Besides Ken Wantanbe constantly looking scared, this is a decent film. Full movie review coming soon.

i dont recall the acting being good in any godzilla movie ever, its the monsters and destruction that make them appealing. i want to see this but i hate going to the movie theatre
