View Full Version : New York And New Jersey Will Always Have The Best Rappers

There was a article in this month's XXL magazine talking about why did New York rappers fall off? Basically the article is saying New York rappers haven't been doing good music in a long time. I haven't read the article but if i did, i would probably disagree with most of the comments. New York rappers have gone back to doing street mixtapes and that's good because the mixtapes are better than the albums anyway LOL. A lot of New York rappers are doing the independent thing now and that's a good thing. They aren't fucking with the major labels like they used to. Just because New York rappers aren't selling a lot of records doesn't mean their skills have gotten bad. If there was a mc battle between New York and New Jersey rappers against the west or against the south, i would put my money on New York and Jersey rappers. The thing i love about New York and Jersey rappers is that they're mc's and they like being lyrical. Rappers from the west and the south don't understand that and they never will. Some rappers from the west like New York rappers like The Alkaholics, Ras Kass, Xzibit, Ice T, Ice Cube, MC Eiht, Spice 1, Too Short, Kurupt, Snoop Dogg.

So the westcoast does show some love to New York rappers but i don't think New York rappers are respected in the south and i know New York rappers could care less cause i know they don't like a lot of southern rappers. And they probably blame the south rappers for fucking up rap music LOL. Geto Boys, 8Ball and MJG, Goodie Mob are probably the only south rappers that New York rappers show respect to.

i think you hit the nail on the head. the tri-state has it's own culture. we do our own thing. a lot of stuff thats big over here people down south and out west probably never even heard.

I love the west and south. every region brings something different to the table. but as far as rapping in itself goes, id have to agree, nobody is fucking with us.

i feel like chicago is slept on though. Chicago gets it.

right now the south is whats "big" and thats cool. but things move in cycles. who knows whats next.

Yeah n.y is where its @....

I think thats because n.y is a major international city and therefore the youth are more cultured, So intern are exposed to a wide variety of potential subject matter for rap songs, also the kids in n.y seem to grow up faster mentally.

Nas is the perfect example of the points I just made.

peace be with you !

lol, it really is sad to see how badly NY's sound fell off....very few of the new artists out that way uphold that true boom bap sound....they chase the southern "bounce" sound or try to do poppy sounding dance music...SMH....

Meanwhile the underground L.A. and Detroit scenes have taken what NY started back in the 90's and built upon it and at the same time reeled in all of NY's old fans....

sigh....we'll always have "Enta Da Stage", "Return Of The Boom Bap", "36 Chambers", "3 Feet High And Rising", "Ready To Die", "Word...Life", "Livin' Proof", "The Awakening", "Daily Operation", "Legal Drug Money", "4,5,6", "Station Identification" and so many other classics...

I can't help it i'm stuck in the 90's. It's not my fault that rap hasn't been good since the 90's LOL. I'm not gonna argue with y'all about this. You got your opinion and i got mine but those westcoast rappers you named aren't fucking with New York and Jersey rappers. Don't sleep on the female rappers i named from Jersey and don't think just because Latifah went hollywood that she can't rap anymore. She's better than some male rappers LOL. So what if the rappers i named aren't rapping anymore. It would look stupid to still be rapping in your 40's anyway LOL. Y'all fucking clowns talking about rap music shouldn't have a age limit when they're supposed to stop rapping. Just because rock singers, r&b singers, country singers can still sing when they're in their 40's, 50's, 60's doesn't mean it's ok for rappers to rap when they're that age because it's not cool to be that old and still rapping.

this thing called Hip Hop is too large to break it up like this

you can find an MC down south that'll roast a NY rapper alive

you can go to germany and find MCs who are more skilled than a NJ rapper

i personally know BX MCs who conformed to what the industry wants and they are now wack - there are allot of BX NY MCs that i know who are mad wack - i know a couple of MCs out here in LA that's Mad nice, and i've heard a myriad of nice MCs out here

yea i peepd the article too...it was abt there relevancy(prob not a word) NOT their skill level...i think its the beef problem.. but then XXL kind of brought something up tht makes complete sense too how the big name rappers in NY dont put on new tristate niggas..og's in the south r always putting on new talent AND puttin them in the lime light...if/when ny og's put on new ny cats they dont market them right...

BUT the next NY rapper that is definetly goin to b in the lime light is french montana...he's got nice smooth bars nd still makes some shit u cud heaaar in the club nd sum great shit too blaze too if ur in the tri-state uve DEFINETLY heard of him..or else ur prob a fag...he also was in tht XXL issue he said some shit tht was featured in the article

SMH, some of you faggots live in a small ass world. You niggaz are missing out on some key shit here. The whole music industry is different now, if you havent noticed, almost no good music is selling big these days. Its bigger then hip-hop, its a national phenomenon. Good rap music has come out of every corner of this country its some ignorant shit to point fingers. Do you niggaz think its a coincidence that as more and more free music was downloaded more and more shit mainstream music became? Now to sell in the mainstream you have to be a very specific niche - it doesnt matter if a nigga came out like redman in 010, the nigga wouldn't sell. The culture and times have changed and this current shit isnt cultivating many next gen greats.

^^^ klap u aint never lied..

Honestly though if you look in the history books.

New jersey always had potent hip-hop. We have had many dominant figures in the hip-hop game. Jersey doesn't get the recognition we deserve today as we did back in the day. Jersey always had the most dangerous emcees, with the pen and in person. Often imitated and always duplicated.

But defintiely do the HISTORY.... Jersey = the MOST DANGEROUS emcees.

What people gotta realize, a large factor of New York being percieved as having the best MC's is that like in the early 90's unless u were from New York, no one was gonna hear your shit.

Im sure there was a sick producer in Chicago or some shit that was just as dope as Premo, but being that he didnt get the exposure he could have if he was in New York, no one would have never known.

For every one dope act that got exposure in Texas or Detroit, 30 got exposure in New York. So of course New York is gonna get the label of having the best MC's
