Looks awesome! I'm so happy with how it turned out. I was skeptical about Reynolds at first but I have a feeling he's a true comic fan and will put a lot of effort into his roles as Green Lantern and Deadpool.

Oh ok, I thought the movie was gonna be about the green lantern from Justice League...
How many are they (humans)??

There's a lot of them. The black Green Lantern is John Stewart, who was like a backup for Hal Jordan until fully replacing him and being in the JLA. Ryan Reynolds is portraying the Hal Jordan one. My personal fav was Kyle Rayner, but Hal Jordan is considered the classic green lantern.

All in all there are 5 I think, at least human ones. Then there are a bunch of alien ones (I think one that's like a talking english bulldog or something).

Cool I never had full overview of them, but got better understanding now.
I know about the alien ones, but didn't know they had several humans also

jesus. he looks even worse than i could have imagined. lol

but still shots of these superhero costumes always suck for the most part. guess we'll just have to wait to see it in motion.

but that cover looks fucking stupid.

yeah the human ones are:
hal jordan, john stewart, guy gardner, and kyle rayner...also alan scott (the original green lantern), but he's not part of the corp.

that costume looks hideous...hollywood always adds these unecessary details...but like main_man said, we'll have to see it on film to judge it accurately.

Well I'm pretty sure it's just a drawing done for the magazine, not like anything official. Probably just a half decent artist at the magazine did some stuff in the computer with a picture of him.

I'm a huge Ryan Reynolds fan so I'm pretty much willing to see anything with him in a lead role. I just hope they don't take it too serious. Reynold is a funny guy, I don't want to see him try to be too serious. It's a comic book film, so I'm sure they're going to try to make him look bad ass and it won't be. I mean how about Blade Trinity. In short, not my favorite film with him in it. Though I mostly blame Biel. She's a dime but she kills everything she touches... well Rules of Attraction was okay... but you can't ruin Bret Easton Ellis, he's a genius.

I've always thought Green Lantern was dope since Super Friends lol. Definatey one of the dopest powers with the whole "will creation" power. However, when I stop to think about Hal Jordan as a character, he has obviously had his deeply flawed moments but he seems sort of one-dimensional..

Can anyone recommend the best Green Lantern story arcs/graphic novel collections? I know the Green Lantern/Green Arrow stuff is supposed to be groundbreaking but have yet to check it out. I've heard good things about Emerald Dawn and Will World..

I think he will do a good job in this; hopefully a better job than he did holding onto his cum while fucking Tara Reid in Van Wilder; like in Botty Call when the bandaged man said he could have fucked longer than that; I could have screwed her for longer than that; probably not by much though.

We all know Tara Reids gash could make even the most iron willed bad ass bust in a couple minutes. You know, assuming shes not incoherently passed out. In that case you could do it for hours. But assuming she's looking good and trying, you'd bust real quick.

yeah, tostones, emerald dawn is worth checkin out. good late 80s stuff. and the classic neal adams green lantern/arrow stuff is worth reading too. some is really good and some is kinda..... meh. but the speedy jackin heroin storyline changed the game.

but like pandemic said. the current gl run by johns would do ya right. especially rebirth, secret origins, the sinestro corp war, the red lantern stuff and some of the blackest night stuff.

Dr. Simon Hurt

^when i finally read the green lantern/green arrow stuff when i was a freshman in high school i thought the writing was laughably bad...(granted it was the 70s) especially the scene with the old black man confronting hal jordan.

GL should've been like "bitch i've saved the whole planet mad times...you live on this planet, right? shut the fuck up, i'm not an acitivist, i'm a superhero"...it just seemed really contrived...i understand their intent, but it's facepalm worthy.

^ya, neal adams draws a mean comic...i do give that run props for introducing john stewart, even though they made him way too angry haha

lol @ green arrow

it's just funny how heavy handed the handling of social issues was in old comics, like the spider-man issues where osborn overdoses on LSD lol

They should bring Ollie into the flick as the angry irreverant anarchistic superhero, but obviously not as heavy-handedly as those 70s comics.

It might chill out Ryan Reynold's jerk-off-ness that he hopefully won't bring to the Lantern role

Specific details about Warner Bros.' (http://warnerbros.com/) intergalactic epic "Green Lantern" (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=27502) have been among the best kept secrets of all of next summer's movies. While the already released photos have given excited fans of the long-running DC Comics (http://dccomics.com/) series and characters a glimpse of Hal Jordan, his costume and Carol Ferris, the full nature of the film (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=28997#) has been closely guarded. This past August, CBR News was given the opportunity to visit the New Orleans studios where the film was shot, arriving on the eve of the production-wrapping principal photography. In the coming months, we will offer you a special look inside the production of the film.
The film's Production Designer (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=28997#) Grant Major ("The Lord of the Rings") took us on a tour of the art department where hundreds of design photos revealed the planet Oa and the training of Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. He discussed developing Green Lanterns such as Kilowog and Tomar-Re into workable digital creations that could interact with the live actors. Along with "Green Lantern" comic writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=28762), Major explained the philosophy behind the green energy and the nature of a Lantern constructs. Also on hand: a scale model of the Central Power Battery.
Costume Designer Ngila Dickson (also a "Lord of the Rings" veteran) described the challenge of creating a costume that will only exist in the computer and adapting that look for the odd and varying shapes of different Green Lantern Corps members. "It became a bit of a reverse engineering job (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=28997#), which is very much taking me well out of my comfort zone," said Dickson. She also explained what became of the traditional white gloves.
Director (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=28997#) Martin Campbell ("Casino Royale") and lead actors Ryan Reynolds and Mark Strong discussed the final days of shooting and the special challenges of the green screen environment and motion tracking suits.
We even had the opportunity to wear the ring.
While we cannot reveal much at this point, Warner Bros has provided us with the images accompanying this article, which offer a tantalizing glimpse of the film and the planet Oa, the key fantastical setting in the film. "We've put quite a bit of work into the design (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=28997#) of Oa as a planet," Major said. "Oa is, of course, at the center of the universe. It is also an extremely old place." Describing it as an ancient "U.N.-cum-military compound," Major and his team have imagined the planet as having a great influence on cultures across the universe. "What we've tried to do is introduce a sort of plethora of a lot of different types of architectural styles and a feeling that over the millennia, there's just been building on building on building and this whole sort of huge history of culture." While Major did look at Oa as depicted in the comics when developing the big screen version of the Guardians homeworld, he sought to broaden the scope beyond anything fans have seen before. "I really wanted to make it the sort of place - with just this glimpse of it - [where] you'd really want to go back there and have a big look around."
Stay with CBR as there will be more surprises ahead while the secrets of "Green Lantern" continue to be revealed.

In brightest day, in hottest night, no set visit shall escape our sight... especially when it's for Green Lantern (http://movies.ign.com/objects/040/040980.html)! Over the course of one of the most brutally hot and humid days imaginable, a select group of press including yours truly paid a visit to New Orleans for a behind-the-scenes look at the next big DC Comics movie -- perhaps their most epic film yet, or at least certainly their most cosmic one. The screen adaptation for Green Lantern (http://stars.ign.com/objects/924/924014.html) draws most heavily from the works of Geoff Johns (http://stars.ign.com/objects/142/14224167.html), who also serves as a co-producer on the film and was on-set when we visited.

Oft-described as DC's answer to Star Wars, everything we saw that day indicated that the Force is strong with this project. The studio's not allowing us to go into too much detail about what we saw for this purposes of this preview, so look for our full set visit and interviews down the line.

Oa's cemetery for fallen Green Lanterns.

We didn't get to observe any actual filming being done -- they were shooting performance-capture scenes with Ryan Reynolds (http://stars.ign.com/objects/917/917185.html) as Hal Jordan on a nearby sound stage -- but that's fine since the filmmaking team essentially showed us the entire movie (albeit in storyboard form)! Production designer Grant Major (http://stars.ign.com/objects/090/090188.html) showed us around the art department room where we saw set models, cardboard stand-ins of Green Lantern Corps (http://movies.ign.com/articles/112/1129210p1.html) members Kilowog (http://stars.ign.com/objects/142/14229314.html) and Tomar-Re (http://stars.ign.com/objects/026/026227.html) (grainy images of which have since leaked online), concept and production design art work, costume and makeup stills, the works.

Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern; click for more images.

Three long walls were covered from end-to-end with concept art that told the film's plot sequence by sequence. Major then proceeded to tell us the entire story of the movie from prologue to final scene, an epic recounting that spanned over an hour (albeit with stops for questions).

More Green Lantern Videos (http://www.ign.com/videos/2010/07/24/green-lantern-movie-sdcc-10-ryan-reynolds?objectid=40980)

The biggest story influence was obviously Johns' "Secret Origin," but it's definitely not a beat for beat retelling of that arc. It deviates from it in several key ways, some good and others we're withholding judgment on until we see the final film. The gist of the Hal-Sinestro relationship -- the padawan learner/Jedi knight bond, if you will -- is there, as is his training on Oa. This mid-section of the movie should prove to be the most visually exciting and geek-friendly part of the whole film as we witness the Lanterns in action and are exposed to the world of Oa.

We're prevented from telling you which other Green Lanterns beyond Hal, Sinestro (http://stars.ign.com/objects/924/924236.html), Tomar-Re and Kilowog are in the film, but let's just say you'll see more of your favorites than not and won't be short-changed when it comes time for the inevitable action figure collecting. The look of the aliens (http://movies.ign.com/articles/112/1129210p1.html), while not yet final, were largely faithful to their comic book counterparts. Indeed, Kilowog and Tomar-Re looked great and far less goofy than they could have. With the exception of scars that now line his face and a slightly shorter haircut along the sides of his head, Sinestro (Mark Strong (http://stars.ign.com/objects/142/14288173.html)) looked pretty much exactly like his comic book counterpart.

http://moviesmedia.ign.com/movies/image/article/112/1129610/env_Oa_city_GL_BeamsOff_cpt3_v003_1287634053_12876 87096-002.jpg (http://media.movies.ign.com/media/040/040980/img_8114341.html) - Warner Bros.

Behold ... Oa! Click for a hi-res version.

The concept art we were shown -- two pieces of which you can see in this report -- were all stunning, promising a picture that's epic in scope, colorful yet not gaudy. Thankfully, the Green Lantern movie really did seem more like a Star Wars or Star Trek film than either campy Flash Gordon or the ludicrous Battlefield Earth. The costume designs we saw were not final, but they were, like the creature designs, largely faithful to their comic book counterparts sans the white gloves.

The biggest lasting impression left by the models of different venues on Oa and all of the conceptual art work was how epic the film is striving to be. The colorfulness of the Lanterns is off-set by the austere starkness of the slightly slate-colored realm of Oa (which looked like a cross between Vulcan and Krypton with maybe a smidgen of Coruscant thrown in, and that ain't a bad cocktail in our book).

http://moviesmedia.ign.com/movies/image/article/112/1129610/GL_Mark_480_1287598072_1287687709.jpg (http://media.movies.ign.com/media/040/040980/imgs_1.html) - Warner Bros.

Mark Strong as Sinestro.

The filmmakers, including director Martin Campbell (http://stars.ign.com/objects/916/916487.html) and producer Donald De Line (http://stars.ign.com/objects/090/090187.html), also showed us a couple of rough scenes from the film. The movie's visual effects weren't ready to be shown by that point, so we were shown character-oriented dialogue scenes instead of "money shot" comic booky ones. Again, we'll have to tell you more about what we saw when we're allowed to run our full set visit preview. Sorry, kids.

Overall, what we were shown from Green Lantern more than compensated for the lackluster presentation offered at last summer's San Diego Comic-Con (http://movies.ign.com/articles/110/1108334p1.html) and accomplished what that panel didn't: It created excitement for the film and hinted at the sci-fi awesomeness that Green Lantern might offer filmgoers tiring of the cinematic exploits of more earthbound superheroes.

Green Lantern opens June 17, 2011.

i've lost all interest in this movie. granted, it's only a trailer, but everything about it seems off to me, especially the tone and van wilder as hal.

it looks cheap and unimpressive, doesn't it? the colors are too bright and gaudy, specifically the GL costume.

it just doesn't feel or look right to me at all, i think making the costumes cg was the wrong move. maybe everything will look better in 3d and there's some really impressive stuff with oa and the rest of the corps, but there was nothing in the trailer that made me amped, and several things that made me wince.

Personally I think they've done a heck of a job on the costume so far, and the movie isn't even finished yet. I agree that some of the dialogue seemed a bit clunky but maybe it's cos we're seeing it out of context. I dunno, but you don't seem to be alone in your opinion. I've accepted that these movies follow a certain trend to help appeal to a mainstream audience, I just hope that they treat the source material with respect and so far I don't see a need to worry just yet.
