Ticking away the moments that make up the dull day

You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today

And then one day you find that ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking

And racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught or a half page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in a quiet desperation is the English way

The time is gone the song is over, thought i'd something more to say

Matt Costa - Songs We Sing
It just came out this year, so it doesn't really qualify as best ever, but it's my favorite ever, or at least at the moment :)

I won't discuss Liquid Swords in this section, but hip-hopishly, I think it's the best ever, along with 36 Chambers.

I think the B side to "Abbey Road" by The Beatles might just be one of the best ever, I don't think the A side is as good, except Harrison's "Something". So, best album ever I say "Rubber Soul" by The Beatles

were you that guy who had in his sig the bjork pic and underneath it "the cuban linx of the pop world" or somthing like dat? - i totally feel the same. bjork is great. rza even did a remix of hunter.

no, one canīt say which is the greatest album ever.

but possibly some beethoven shit. i mean the dude kept composing CLASSICS when he was already DEAF!!! and he made a song you can play backwards and it sounds the same as when you play it forward. too dope. mozart, bach, those were fucking geniuses that mostly died poor. they had to make the music to entertain kings and lords without a proper contact, street promo, mixtapes, videos with big booty bitches, bentleys and beamers, their own clothing line, website, a bentley farnswoth to shave their legs, a gangsta image, a fall off to fucking mainstream after the first commercial success....

ok, iīm exaggerating but these dudes must get some credit, too!

Aenima by Tool is, at least at this very second what I think is the best album ever.
When you talk about Wu-Tang, they must have, between them 50 albums out there. So, on that, I gotta say that Wu is the greatest band ever, rock, hip-hop, whatever. I don't know about any other group anywhere that's put out as many albums as they have in such a short time period, and still goin strong. I don't think there's anyone else to even consider, maybe The Beatles, or The Rolling Stones, Or Led Zeppelin, but they don't put out new material 4 or 5 times a year anymore, and I don't think they ever have.
I never thought about it in those terms until a few weeks ago. Add in The Killa Bees and all the other Wu Related albums and you're way over 50 albums strong. Official Albums, not Best Of, or Greatest Hits.
Even James Brown might not work as hard. Think about it.

It's a fact that a lot of composers wrote pieces that play backwards and forwards. Mozart wrote a piece that's on the same piece of paper, it wasn't written backwards and forwards per se. The idea was that kid's practicing music could sit at a table facing each other and play a piece that looked forward to each of them off the same piece of paper, so it's kinda forward and backward, basically it was written in mirror images.

And dying with no money doesn't mean a damn thing. All that means is they don't know how to deal with money. So they never have any.

SlightlySlightedFan
02-20-2006, 07:27 AM
The thing about these 50 + albums is that all of them are quality.
I should have said 50 classics instead. So it's quantity and quality. An unbeatable pair.

i was just about to say no mention of MJ?!?!?! but someone mentioned Thriller & someone mention Jackson 5's first album. i havent heard any of MJ older shit since i was like 13! most of my belongings are in storage as we (my family) are living in a rented house and building one to move into. we've had to take the seller of the land to court blah blah blah, thats why my stuff has been in storage for years (im 19 nrly!).

i used to be crazy n MJ's music so i got a load of his album on cassette from back in the day when i was like 8 onwards.

i have to remind myslef how Thriller is!! Channel 4 had it in their top 100 albums of all time too, think it came top 5.
the only MJ albums ive heard since are Blood On The Dance Floor, Invincible, best of MJ/J5, MJ Ultimate Collection. as these have been (on cd) released since my stuff went into storage.
i remember something about the Dangerous album, think i liked that one when i was younger. think im gunna get Thriller on cd.

what was Jackson 5's first album???

Some people really need to extend beyond hip-hop... I can't name just 'one' album, so it's gonna be one for every genre I like basically.

Hip-Hop - Raekwon - OB4CL
Soul - Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Funk - Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Pop - TIE:Prince - Purple Rain or Michael Jackson - Thriller
Rock - The Beatles - The Beatles
Avant-Garde Pop - Bjork - Homogenic

There are heaps of runner ups though, just a few include Hot Buttered Soul, Superfly, Odelay, Sea Change, Homogenic, Liquid Swords, Chronic/Doggystyle, Let's Get It On, I Want You, What's Going On, Innervisions, Spirit Man.. there are about 50 more I could run off the top of my head.

The lack of love for u2 sickens me! They have 14 releases of which their latest won 5 grammys this year including best album!!!! Are people deaf or just plain ignorant? This band has been around for 26 years now and tickets to their shows are STILL impossible to get. The Joshua Tree which also won a grammy for album of the year has been said that it is one of or not the greatest EVER! Not just by myself or by other fans but critics alike. Thats the rock side of what i believe is the greatest album...hip hop i would have to say either Enter the 36 Chambers or Illmatic

christ man, get a fucking brain.

best album, you ask? this's hard. i'm gonna go for a selection:

prodigy - fat of the land
massive attack - mezzanine
oasis - (what's the story?) morning glory

there are others. many others. these are probably the best when i get down to it, though.

Can - Tago Mago

The weirdest most original thing I have ever heard, but really moving on repeated listens.
