in celebration of the greatest MC of all time, KRS-One, a.ka. 'i am Hip-Hop', collaboration with one of the illest producers, and definitely the most underrated vintage beatmaker in True Master, i felt it was only right to hit you up with something that alot of people would probably kill for lol.
after the death of Scott La Rock in 1988, KRS-One's partner in the duo Boogie Down Productions and releasing the timeless classic "Criminal Minded" on B-Boy Records in 1987. The album is hailed as one of the best and most original hip-hop LP's ever recorded. After the debut and La Roch's tragic death, KRS-One continued releasing albums still under the moniker of Boogie Down Productions on Jive Records, While it partly was a group effort, "Sex & Violence" in 1992 and "Edutainment" in 1991was considered by many to be masterpieces that worked as B.D.P.'s final albums. KRS-One touches on a wide array of topics on these albums that 95% of rappers wouldn' even dare to ventilate. He speaks on underrage girl trying to lure men thinking they are older than them, only to keep her father who's a police-chief turning up at the door only to try to seduce Kris hahah.
After 5 BDP albums on Jive Enter 1993 and "Return Of The Boom Bap", the first album KRS-One released under his own name which also allow him to use outside producers (DJ Premier, Showbiz, KRS-One and Kid Capri). 1995 and 1997 saw Kris release "KRS-One" and "I Got Next" respectively. two dope albums in in it's own right, Kris rocking mics over beats from DJ Premier, Diamond D, Showbiz, KRS-One, Jesse Wesst, DJ Muggs and even Puff Daddy/Stevie J. His contract on Jive was for releasing 10 albums, 6 BDP, 3 KRS-One solos and then..... "MAXIMUM STRENGTH". The album was eventually shelved for some reason despite a double A-side 12" single was released in promotion for the forthcoming album.
after the album got scrapped KRS-One pressed up a gang of white label 12" releases on his Front Page Entertainment recorded between 1998-1999 that might very well been recorded for the album. In 2008 a tracklisting for the original "Maximum Strength" was released but because of legal issues the album was switched to "Maximum Strength 2008", a totally different LP which was far from as good. Since i'm a huuuge fan of Kris work this was kinda like the holy grail for me (lol), and i became almost obsessive in putting together what this album might have very well supposed to sound like. I struggled my ass off to found information and these tracks so give me some rep. There's 15 tracks in total and about 9-10 of the tracks was 100% recorded for "Maximum Strength", some remains unreleased, Malcolm McLauren included a song on her compilation and alot of the white label joints was released on the D.I.G.I.T.A.L. compilation.
"Bring it to the Cypher" is a song i'm not sure would've ended up on "Maximum Strength" but it's such a dope track not to include it. KRS-One and Truck Turner ripping in an ill DJ Premier beat that was recorded between '98 and '99. "Aquarius" is another unknown song that Showbiz produced for Kris in like '98-99 and other dope producers include the Domingo produced "Warning Shot" and "Temple Tactics".
This album should've closed KRS's obligations with Jive Records and would've been a great album that would be memored in the same vein as "I Got Next". I probably bumped this 10 times front-to-back already since i first started fucking with it. Scroll down, ENJOY this shit and TURN IT UP!!
