Please link me to the thread where someone said J. Cole wasn't a sick lyricist.

Was it in the Wu-Tang Chamber?

Cuz that's the only place I could see someone posting that type of shit.

It seems like he's in between dope and the collective of new rappers who flood the download servers with here-today-gone-tomorrow material, 80% of which you can't even remember their names. At least he's somebody who sounds like he tries to bring a little more skill to this new style of today's mainstream Hip Hop which has a low level of lyrical skill and originality overall.

I'll give him credit for writing about serious topics in life, but to use that simplistic Drake style of rhyming and come off as a a serious lyricist doesn't sound right to me. Your better off leaving it up to true lyricists and legends, but it seems like alot of people don't even care about a legendary level of skill today, they just want fast food as music so the less talented people are able to slide.

"I woke up early in the mornin' hoes blowin up my phone
Ain't use to small talkin' when they know I'm Tryna bone, Fuck em'
I'll holla later man, right now my mind else where
My moms health care get her out this hell here Alot of niggas fail, but frail niggas won't prevail here
We seen it all man niggas can't even spell scared A fresh prince but yo my city ain't no Bel-Air
Fuck if you would sell, I'm worried bout my welfare
So farewell to them broke days and bonjour to the most paid
Soon as my dough straight I throw the wifey in some dolce and put some chains on my niggas like own slaves
I get up look out the window hope the sun shining down on a nigga outhere front lining
I hit the streets and see them boys out here locking up some older head
So god damn homey hold ya head (And hold ya head)"

^^thats what u call "fast-food" music?

and thats what u compare it to:
This is me.
Still the same.
They want the hits.
I play the game.
No auto tune, but you can feel the "Pain".
It all comes spilling out like I hit a vein.
What up lil' Bruh?
What up SlumVille?
I hope you know that y'all the reason I have fun still.
The fans thinking that we all signed for one mill'.
Equal opportunity rapping, that shit is unreal.
That ain't how it works.
That ain't that how it goes.
And I been getting high just to balance out the lows.
And I could use a writer just to balance out my flows.
But I never share my thoughts,
This is all a nigga knows.
And every time I try, it opens up my eyes.
These verses are a chance to be remembered and reprised.
And I would be performing this as long as I'm alive ,
So every word I utter will be mine.

nah dude, quit that shit, j. cole is dope. i think u have ur head way to far into the 90's ass.

and if ur implying j.cole's part of the demographic ur critiquing, u obviously dont know the guy. his only purpose in the game is literally releasing a classic.
