Nas - Stillmatic
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
01 - Stillmatic (The Intro) - 5/5 [one of the highlights of nas career] 02 - Ether - 5/5 03 - Got Urself A... - 5/5 04 - Smoking - 3/5 [really out of place, boring beat] 05 - You're Da Man - 5/5 [classic] 06 - Rewind - 5/5 07 - One Mic - 5/5 08 - 2nd Childhood - 5/5 [as good as anything from Illmatic] 09 - Destroy & Rebuild - 4/5 10 - The Flyest (feat. AZ) - 5/5 [life's a bitch pt.2, not really as good though] 11 - Rule (feat. Amerie) - 3/5 [out of place, should have been scrapped] 12 - My Country (feat. Blitz) - 4/5 13 - What Goes Around - 5/5 [incredible track both lyrics & musically] 14 - Every Ghetto (feat. Millenium Thug) - 4.5/5 [almost based on lyrics alone] Overall; 4.5/5 - could have been a 5/5 if he'd just scrap Smoking and Rule. At least he got rid of Braveheart Party which is a plus. One of Nas best albums though, lyrically it's hotter than he'd been in years before and lots of those tracks are classics that sounds as fresh today as when we first heard them. Matter of fact he should have made it 10 songs just like "Illmatic" and it would actually be worthy of the title (2001-illmatic). |
i re-made this thread with a poll instead since there wasn't a review-thread for Stillmatic before and I fucked up creating one last night. anyway I rate the album 4.5 but it's more 5 than 4.

4/5
Overrated. Great album, but far from a classic. |
It's a fuckin banger album
|
01 - Stillmatic (The Intro) - 5/5
02 - Ether - 4/5 03 - Got Urself A... - 3/5 04 - Smoking - 2/5 stupid ass lyrics, shitty beat 05 - You're Da Man - 5/5 06 - Rewind - 5/5 07 - One Mic - 5/5 lyrical peak 08 - 2nd Childhood - 5/5 SUPER CLASSIC IMO 09 - Destroy & Rebuild - 4/5 10 - The Flyest (feat. AZ) - 2/5 shitty track, straight up 11 - Rule (feat. Amerie) - 4/5 12 - My Country (feat. Blitz) - 4/5 13 - What Goes Around - 5/5 14 - Every Ghetto (feat. Millenium Thug) - 4/5 A classic in my eyes...just a few shit tracks that I skip. |
Near classic. I couldn't get enough of it when it first dropped. I actually just popped it in right now cuz I haven't listened to it in a long ass time.

4.5/5. The one classic track on here is One Mic, which is one of the best songs ever, lyrically it's ridiculous, Nas's delivery is his best ever on it, and the beat is perfect. Other amazing tracks are the intro, You're Da Man, What Goes Around and Every Ghetto. Ether is great but way overrated, because of some wack lines ("I rock hoes, y'all rock fellas") and blatant lies (36 in a karate class, tae bo ho=WACK). 2nd Childhood is great as well, as is My Country and Rule. This was a great album to resurrect Nas's career after the subpar Nastradamus, but it is not the classic some label it as. It is far below Illmatic, and a notch below It Was Written. It is on par with The Lost Tapes, and ahead of the rest of Nas's catalogue.

Both this and God's Son were amazing albums 4.5/5. Way too many people shit on them and claim Nas has fallen off, but he's had 4-5 completely ill albums:
Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic, and God's Son. |
I thought I'd bump this cos I've got a question.
Voted Masterpiece cos its fantastic. Anyway, my disc is scratched like hell, I want to put it on my iPod, will it be okay and not 'jumpy' when I copy it to my computer. Hope someone can help. |
01 - Stillmatic (The Intro) - 5/5 (dope, dope beat)

AZ) - 5/5 (nice soundscape and dope back and forth) 11 - Rule (feat. Amerie) - 3/5 (trying to repeat 'if i ruled the world', wack) 12 - My Country (feat. Blitz) - 1/5 (wack hook, beat etc) 13 - What Goes Around - 5/5 (One of Nas moments) 14 - Every Ghetto (feat. Millenium Thug) - 2/5 (beat stinks) Only slightly better than I Am and Nastradamus |
