How far in the future are we looking?

(Possibly due to my age,) my first thought having looked at the original post was to do with my life in about 5 years time.

Then, I began to think about more universal and impersonal stuff.

I see an intensely dark night coming...followed by a Bright New Day.

But who will survive the Night...and what will it take?
