Default Waking Life= An Awesome movie

This "scanner darkly style" animated movie is a headtrip with deep philosophical discussions about life, relationships, dreams and the nature of reality.

basically dude is caught in a neverending dream in which he meets and talks with various characters about life. highly recommended.

    watch it here.

the animation adds to the "you are in a dream" effect. after a while you stop paying attention to the animation and the fact that the animation style changes from scene to scene.

classic film imo....linklater did the rotoscoping technique in this before 'a scanner darkly' but i think it's even more ffective here for the content. there's alot of heady discussions in this movie on cosciousness, the nature of humanity, perception...some people might consider it pretentious, but it is immensely enjoyable and merits multiple viewings.

is alex jones the guy driving around with the megaphone?

This is a brilliant movie. I'm not one for Animation films really, but I didn't really think about it once I got into the film, which is easy to do as there are many interesting characters and dialogues to keep you going.

This film is in my collection but I guess i'm biased as I have every film from Richard Linklater.

    favorite conversations in the flick?

i liked the fast talking "evolution of humanity" dude and the thick eyebrowed guy on the bridge who said " i can love and make love to my understanding of life and on romantic evenings, salsa dance with my confusion"

    profound.

^two different types of films, really.
i enjoyed this one more, but 'scanner' is probably one of the most effective adaptations of a novel i've seen.

Does anyone actually dream like that? My dreams are like real life mixed with a touch of CGI at times when things get fuzzy. I don't get it. Dreams are like conscious life but the plots don't add up and things are randomly there or not there one minute and there the next.

dream types are unique to each mind.
my dreams are so vivd that at times i can't tell the diff even tho the plot is impossible by most standards. but in the end, i can usually see exactly where the plot and characters come from as they relate to my waking life.

Sometimes I can. Sometimes I'm wrestling Polar bears in the artic or I'm stabbing Jerry Stiller in a hospital ward full of mutated children who I use as meat shields against the wild shots popping off from Method Man and the douche from Limp Bizkit.

This segment in the vid below had me amused at how confusing it is to understand it but I still enjoyed it.

Also, I like the guy driving the boat car. He said "I feel like my transport should be an extension of my personality, voila"

And when Wiley is just about to get with that girl from the train station later on in the movie, he wakes up, lol.

And of course, I like the bits that Richard Linklater is in himself in the boat car and at the end of the movie playing the pinball machine.

Btw, if you like that Speed Levitch segment on the bridge, you should check out the short film Live from Shiva's dance floor, which is from Richard Linklater as well.
