Video: J Dilla Playing Beats On A Dual MPC3000 Setup For Slum Village
Sounds like he's playing beats from around the "Welcome To Detroit" era on his dual MPC setup. He's not the first to setup more than one machine for playing beats, a few producers have MIDI'd MPCs and SP's together to increase their memory/sample time.
After watching that, I think people can still make good use of MPCs today. I don't think the widespread use of digital workstations and so much sample time has necessarily benefited today's production, maybe only a select few who know how to put them to use but for the most part I like hearing the rawness of MPCs and hardware with limited sample time as Hip Hop.
I see Guitar Center and Amazon still keeps a line of used MPCs in all different models. Check em out here if you're looking for that vintage Hip Hop sound and functionality: http://bit.ly/hOTWCYhttp://ht.ly/3I98y
