Default 'Iron Man' composer sues Ghostface Killah for millions over sample, name use

    http://www.allhiphop.com/stories/new.../22832178.aspx

The lawsuit claims that in addition to illegally using the “Iron Man Theme” on the album Supreme Clientele, the usage of the name "Tony Starks" is also infringing upon Urbont's copyrights.

    Urbont seeks millions in damages.

    Iron Man is Tony Stark.

    Ghostface is Tony Starks.

    Nuff said.

Well, first of all, he has absolutely no claim to Tony Starks, because the character name in Ironman is Tony Stark. They'll probably settle on the use of the Ironman theme, although Urbont's claim that Ghostface earned his notoriety and wealth through the use of the comic book character is baseless.

Yeah Marvel and Stan Lee (Iron Man's creator) have the copyright on the name. Considering how the sound clips from the old Iron Man TV show are on "Supreme Clientele", I would be really surprised if the label didn't clear them with Marvel, in which case this guy probably doesn't have much of a case here if he doesn't have the publishing rights to that theme song.

Bottom line - if those names and themes are copywrited, Ghostface looses. It's that simple. Remember Smif-N-Wessun? They got sued as well and had to change to Coco Bruvas.

exactly, the same thing just happened to Cypress Hill for a song on their first album (like 20 years ago) and Leaders Of The New School. the biggest suprise is that it didn't happen sooner though, i'm suprised they didn't bother to clear such an obvious sample from a well known show.

Hard to believe that the label haven't clear those Iron Man samples, it's Marvel damnit! a big release like Supreme Clientele can't get away without clearing that.

im no legal expert but i would assume the legal action against the ironman sample would have to be against the record label? they published it....

in any case, this is ghey
