    Default Nerd News v2.0

Before I remake this thread, I just wanted to put forth some guidelines about posts:

    • Stay on topic
    • It's not a race to find the most breaking news. Posting something from a few months ago is fine.
    • Mainstream and Alternative science articles are welcome.
    • Do not spam the thread with the same topic everyday. Especially if people aren't that interested.
    • Posting small excerpts occasionally is fine - just don't abuse it.
    • Post just the HEADLINE + LINK. Copying and pasting the entire article isn't necessary and clutters the thread (however it's ok every now and then)
    • If you strongly oppose something, make a thread to debate/rant.

The two research groups used 'blinding' so neither side could influence the other with their findings.

double blinded is standard, its one of the only ways of finding genuine results..

even tho the scientists thoughts could interfere with that..

This is ridiculous, and just reaching. Already some excellent comments on the article.

I watched the first hour of the CERN announcement in the early am..

Very hard to follow what was being said..

Then i made the misake of reading comments on news articles being published by the second..

The same moridly obese people who watch american idol or the super bowl "just for the commercials" actually had the audacity to put in their 2 cents about the findings. My brain now hurts.

Scientists at the CERN research centre in Switzerland welcome the news that a new subatomic particle could be the Higgs boson, the basic building block of the universe. Spokesman for one of the two teams hunting for the Higgs particle, Joe Incandela, makes the announcement. Footage courtesy of Reuters.
