Default Reasonable Doubt vs. The Blueprint

These are obviously two masterpieces of work. Reasonable Doubt has that grimey mafioso sound to it while The Blueprint has that dominant rock sound combined with soul; both of them have classic tracks such as "22 Twos" "Dead President" "Takeover" and "U Don't Know" and all of them managed to make a defining statement in this world we call hip-hop; Reasonable Doubt establishing Jay-Z as a force in the game and The Blueprint taking things back to the basics of sampling.

So which one is your favorite? I can't decide between the two as I love them both equally.

Blueprint is not a masterpiece. Reasonable Doubt, obviously classic.

I'd give it to Blueprint, just.

It's incredibly close and I change my mind often, but today I'm feeling Reasonable Doubt. The production on it is just beautiful and for a debut, Jay-Z sounded so calm, confident, and self-assured. You could still tell that he was giving it everything he had though.

If anything The Blueprint has better subject matter and is more cohesive than Reasonable Doubt. Jay-Z does not try to rap fast and is much more polished as an emcee on the Blueprint. Sonically, I could understand why people would prefer Reasonable Doubt over The Blueprint.

Youre saying you think the Blueprint flows more as an album? I dont agree but I would say the beats are cleaner sounding and more soulful at times on Blueprint, and I really like Just Blazes and K Wests beats on it. But thematically Reasonable Doubt felt more cinematic to me and each track more or less related to the same or similar subject matter plus the guests were all sick,

Lyrically, RD is more cohesive but Laolu, you're right that the subject matter is better on Blueprint. RD is straight hustlin' rap which isn't bad, but had already been done multiple times at that point. Blueprint's subject matter is varied and more interesting than drug sales.

Reasonable Doubt is Jay's only classic album.

Blueprint comes second but I never considered a classic.

To me Blueprint is borderline wack, but i know how much you guys like those soft bullshit soul beats, so whatever. RD is a classic.
