I thought Baadasssss! was a pretty dope movie. Mario Van Peebles paid a proper tribute to his pops film. It made me want to see Sweet Sweetbacks though, but I never got around to it. I might see if I can track it down one of these days.
"Return to earth as a person, only to see you mouse niggas running from the serpent" - Jus Allah
the tribute is what i saw -
Terrible movie hahahahahahahahahahaha. Looked like a damn porno flick in some scenes. I realized that was Mario Van Peebles as a kid at the beginning when he was fucking that woman hahahahahahahahahaha. Bucktown movie with Pam Grier, Fred Williamson, Carl Weathers, Thalmus Rasuala is very good. It came out in 1975. Coffy movie with Pam Grier is also good. Those are 2 of my favorite 70's black movies.
Earth Wind and Fire did the music for this - it's their debut
Earth Wind And Fire did some music for the movie? Didn't know that.
Watch the documentary done by his son Mario.
This flick opened up the door for allot of people.
I never heard their earlier albums before Keep Your Head To The Sky. I bet most people didn't know that Maurice White had some different band members before they did Keep Your Head To The Sky album. Maurice's manager told him that he should consider using different band members because the group wasn't selling any records. They were a jazz band at first and when Maurice took his manager's advice and used different band members, the rest is history. They made several good albums later on in the mid 70's to early 80's. I saw a documentary about them called Shining Stars which is very good. It's about 2-3 hours and every group member is interviewed. Maurice White, Philip Bailey, Verdine White(Maurice's brother)does most of the talking.

Why It Crackles
Mario Van Peebles uncannily channels his trailblazing father Melvin, in an engrossing movie-within-a-movie.
