I'm not disregarding anything you've just yet to prove me wrong. You haven't proven on GSP having facing tougher competition or Jones. That was my only point.doesn't matter if its his fault or not, the fact is, with the comments you've typed, you're disregarding his status as pound for pound best fighter due to the lack of quality competition compared to GSP (supposedly) and Jon Jones, so yea it's a relevant comparison when I speak about Mike Tyson....because people have the same view regarding him when discussing the same topic during his era, only it's boxing.
Sherk dropped to LW, but he was a dominant WW before that. He only dropped because he couldn't beat Hughes and GSP. Sherk was undisputed #2 WW in the world at the time he fought GSP.who else?! You listed Hughes, BJ Penn, Fitch, Sherk, and Alves. Who else is high-calibur talent that he's beat?! Mayhem Miller? Koschek? Dan Hardy? Parysian? None of those guys aside from HUghes and BJ I'd consider a top 10 fighter, even during their supposed "prime" with the exception of maybe Koschek, but even then I never thought he was worthy of a title shot....I didn't ignore them, I felt they were irrelevant.
Fitch is BY FAR better than anyone Silva has ever faced. Fitch is still the 2nd best WW in the world, and he really did clean out pretty much everyone.
And like I said, Jones already has more quality wins in his last 2 years than Anderson has in his entire MMA career.
Henderson is still Silva's most impressive win.

before that fight i thought it was 50/50 but that one minute of action was telling...
JDS got no respect for dude threw kicks at him and literally connected with every shot he threw and cain looked shook from the opening bell...
jr chin >>> cain chin
jr standup >>> cain standup
jr tdd >>> cain td
i think JDS drops him again 1st round KO..
cains a good kickboxer for MMA but his defense is shaky he gets tagged by everyone standing and if you got a lot of power like jr you can put him out before he drags you down..
need to see reem vs JDS thats the fight im undecided on fireworks for sure...
silva wins... chael did a nice job that first round he layed the blueprint down on how you beat spider... you take him to the mat and work him... if sonnen had heavier ground n pound he coulda finished him in full mount... he was even fishing for subs in side control.... he has the wrestling to take him down and the control to hold him there but surviving the exchanges thagt take it to the mat for 25 mins is a tall order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i dont think bones jones and silva will ever fight but i would take jon jones in that fight... if johnny has silva mounted those elbows will stab him in the eye... jones is too big... jones could bring the pressure like he did the 2nd round of machida fight when he realized trading with machida is a bad idea... straight to the mat... i think machida is a lot harder to take down than andy...
i wish the hendo anderson fight happened at 205 dan was gassing a lot harder at 185 when that went down... hendo uses his werestling to stay up and knock fools out... he was bullying andy that fight till he gassed got hit up and choked... id like to see that fight again anyway at 85 or 205
also would really like to see shogun fight andy.. i need to see a deadly stand up fighter with a chin go against silva.. shogun also has crazy GNP and good takedowns and subs... shit shoulda happened a long time ago... cote has a metal chin and was able to stand and trade til his kneee blew out and hes not real technical... its all matchups chael is a bad matchup cuz his strength is andys weakness
he had 2 cherry fights at 205 and bodied both... up the challenge...
Anderson vs Munoz would be interesting, and I think would potentially be the next best matchup for the MW division.
I think Rich Franklin at the time could be compared status-wise to Matt Hughes, as he is regarded (today) as one of the best fighters of all time. With wins over Liddell, Wanderlei (2X), Okami, Evan tanner (2X), Ken Shamrock, etc. And facing (though losing) to the likes of Machida, Belfort, Hendo, Forrest, etc. He's faced the top tier competition, and always performed well. Even though he was utterly pwned both times he and Anderson fought, he should still be regarded as the same-level as Hughes IMO.
Even when Hughes was on top durning is tenure as the top guy in his weight class, he defended his belt to: Carlos Newton, Sakurai, Gil castilo, Frank Trigg, and Sean Sherk. Aside from Sherk, I'd consider the rest bum-status (though I hate Sherk as well), and aside from BJ Penn (which he lost 2 of the 3 times they met), GSP (again losing 2 of the 3 times they met) the only other calibur fighter I'd say Hughes fought with were an over-the-hedge Royce and Renzo Gracie, Koschek who I've never regarded as a good fighter, and maybe Matt Serra depending on where he stands in people's books......
I never regarded Hughes as a p4p guy, though that doesn't mean I don't recognize his status as great (as you would with Anderson). But to say Anderson hasn't fought anyone the same caliber talent-wise as GSP, defeating Hughes for the belt, I'd say the same goes for when Anderson defeated Franklin for the belt. Franklin will never be regarded as p4p, but he IS recognized for being one of the greats, and I think if Anderson stayed in PRIDE, and never came to the UFC, his career status (Franklin) could've developed into a potential Liddell-type-status for the MW division.
Jones I have no comment; not a particular fan of his, though he has shown he has talent in such a short time especially against the competition he has faced.

wow posting gifs to make a point. yeah, my little sister does that too. it's cute. but I grew up in the '90s, so we didn't have faggot shit like that back in the day. anyway, the fuck am I doing arguing about MMA? Fedor and Cro Cop retired, so fuck it. wake me up when Bones beats big chin Hendo
anderson silva = the best pound for pound MMA fighter currently bustin' heads.
even though my boy cheated his ass off (grabbing sonnen's shorts like he was gonna either pull them down, pull them way up, or maybe take his dick out and play with it), i was glad to see him put that cracker on his ass. i was hoping he would hospitalize him, but it was still all good. sonnen looked at the ref like,"you see this shit?!?!?!?".
the only one fuckin with anderson is bones. give bones another year or 2 and he may take a lot of the wind out of the anderson silva hype. i would love to see them fight in a rubber match or even if silva wanted to go up to 205, but being a realist i know that it will never happen.
but as of right now? silva deserves all his praise. and like someone said before, even when he gets beat on he never looks like he had a fight. and check out the documentary "like water". pretty good documentary about the spider.
"Fuck Wu Tang Corp" - The GZA/Genius
Word, Like Water was pretty good. Didn't really learn anything new about Anderson in that documentary, but it was kind of cool reliving his first fight with Sonnen.
"Return to earth as a person, only to see you mouse niggas running from the serpent" - Jus Allah
Anyway, my point wasn't to run down Rich but simply to point out that his MW reign wasn't that great and so Silva didn't get the same "legacy" boost that Fedor & GSP did in the examples that I gave.
And "bum's"? Lol Newton had just choked out Pat and was quite the fighter. Riggs was looking pretty good as well (Won the WEC championship) Trigg was a serious competitor at the time.
Lytle,Newton,Sakurai,Penn, Sherk,Trigg, and GSP are all notable names on Hughes record.
As for GSP's resume.
Fitch - #2 ranked WW,anywhere from #6-#10 on P4P list at the time. Bigger than GSP at 6'1". Fight could have been stopped 3 or 4 times - EASILY. Biggest scoring margin in title-fight history that went to a decision.
Alves- #2 or #3ranked WW,anywhere from #6-#10 on P4P list at the time.
Hardy - GSP had Dan (6'0") in two VERY tight submission holds that most fighters would have tapped in. I also think Hardy's size posed a problem - honestly.
Kos - GSP beat the crap out of Josh. Sometimes the lucky connection just doesn't land.
Sheilds- Top 6 P4P and concensus #2 WW in theworld. He had beaten Dan Henderson at MW just a few months before. GSP received a blatant eye-poke similar to the one he took from Penn in their first meeting. The gif is out there and its one of the most blatant ones I've seen. It affected GSP a lot for the final two rounds no question.
Bottom line, is that GSP through all those decisions has faced the absolute cream of the crop (at the time they fought).
In 18 UFC fights, GSP has faced NINE top 10 P4P fighters at the time they fought! Hughes 3x (yes, all three times he was ranked in the top ten), Sean Sherk (31-2-1), BJ Penn (yes, both times Penn was ranked top 10), Fitch, Alves and Sheilds. There's no question GSP has beaten tougher competition. That's simply the only point I'm trying to make.
^ just look at a highlight of his on youtube, and watch how easily he leg-locks guys. He's notorious for his leg locks.
