Default Hip-Hop History Lesson (part I)

Back before Rakim became a microphone fiend
Kool Herc was in the Bronx rockin' the DJ scene
Sugar Hill Gang was number one on the charts
Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel turned the message into art
Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons started Def Jam
LL and the Beastie Boys were on the label back then
Most don't know, Juice Crew battled Boogie Down Productions
Cops began to run when they heard KRS-One
Then Rakim Allah and Eric B. blew the game open
In the Staten Island Projects, Wu-Tang started formin'
You had Nas lookin' out his window for material
Suge Knight with his hand on rap's neck, game in a stranglehold
Remember Kwame had the polka dots and crazy haircut?
Phife was tellin' y'all to get some toilet paper cuz ya lyrics was butt
Back when a kid named Christopher Wallace was rockin' in Brooklyn
Tupac Shakur was hangin' in Oakland
Kris Koss hangin' with JD before Bow Wow
Public Enemy encouraged a nation of millions to be proud
Ice Cube was AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, beefin' wit Dre
When Gang Starr and Krumbsnatcha were makin' 'em pay
Grandmaster Caz, Kurtis Blow, DJ Red Alert
Battlin' Mr. Magic, the war between radio networks
We lost some soldiers, Poetic, Buffy, Cowboy, Scott La Rock
ODB, Big L, Eazy-E, Pun, Biggie, and 2Pac
Camouflage died too, everyone in Savannah miss him
And a piece of Magnolia died with Souljah Slim
I wanna go out just like him, in a white horse and carriage
Hopin' my life lasts longer than Treach and Pepa's marriage
The Hip-Hop history lesson, know ya facts
Because rap's more than just earning stacks

    I wrote that when I was 14 years old...enjoy...
