Default Boogie Down Productions - By All Means Necessary

    1. My Philosophy
    2. Ya Slippin'
    3. Stop the Violence
    4. Illegal Business
    5. Nervous
    6. I'm Still #1
    7. Part Time Suckers
    8. Jimmy
    9. T'Cha, T'Cha
    10. Necessary

All tracks performed, produced and mixed by KRS-One. Overseen by DJ Scott LaRock.

Really excellent old-school album, and IMO best KRS-One ever did. Lyrically sharp as fuck, with best conscious KRS-One lyrics he ever dropped. His style was also brilliant at that phase, it still had some smoothness that he lost in his latter phases, but also wasn't boring a second.

But what is even better is the production. One listen at the beats and everything is clear: the album was waaay ahead of its time. Beats for "I'm Still #1", "Nervous" and "Illegal Business", to name the best have the grimey and dark vibe that was first captured after that by Black Moon.

Plus - it has one of best cover arts ever done in hiphop.

So, I give this album a 10/10 - undeniable classic.

"The Devil is not the Prince of Matter; the Devil is the arrogance of the spirit, faith without smile, truth that is never seized by doubt. The Devil is grim because he knows where he is going, and, in moving, he always returns whence he came."

Classic album, but I'm not sure what to rate it.
It's feels a bit tired to me (I only got it just over a year ago), I recognise its a classic etc. but if i were tp rate it out of ten on music it would probably be about 7.

    Classic Album. 10/10
The only track that wasn't great was Nervous, but it was far from bad.

Gave it a 9. The beats aren't anywhere near as good as that on Criminal Minded IMO but lyrically KRS moved it up another level.
    The outcome is critical

By All Means Necessary is good but it's not better than the other BDP albums. Classic album cover of KRS imitating Malcolm X's famous picture of him holding a gun while looking out the window.
