how the hell did you get around copyright infringement issues of incorporating major brand labels like pilsbury or quaker oats into your t-shirt designs which are being sold for a profit?

i have a federal copyright on all my designs. since we are verifying my creds. heres the official info #VAu695-969 Jan2006 Gavin Simmons

my folks live in B-more so one day i dove to DC and went to the copyright office and sat down with them. i was able to file my work as " visual arts parody/commentary"
it would be diff if i was selling cereal or soda but i'm selling clothing. plus the characters aree altered past the point of infringment.

it was really easy. i thought i was gonna get in trouble too. or at least have to go back to the drawing board. but i filed in 2005 and 6 months later i got my certificate in the mail. i'm now in the midst of suing a few companies who bit my work. one company "ichiban" straight up scanned my shirts and reprinted them.

I had no clue you could file under "visual arts parody/commentary" - or at least i was unsure of the category name.

Thank you I learned something today, and I know someone whos going into the tshirt business with his brother who should be notified of this.

yeah the best thing is to contact the office. once you file and pay the fee ($65 i thiink) you get access to a copyright lawyer. they are really helpful and will walk u thru the process of getting your shit approved.
i found that there is a way to own anything. Paris Hilton owns the rights to "That's Hot". if you say that shit on tv or radio or print it she can sue u. thats fucked up right?

i read about half way thru the legitimate posts and then the BS started.. didnt read any further so excuse me if i missed something important. this thread is locked for now as i dont see it servin any further purpose.

a future note.. it would be organized to have 2 separate threads. one for strictly posting work and designs pertaining to the battle and a another thread for discussion.
