Thread: One of the most over rated, straight WACK albums ever

  1. #1

Default One of the most over rated, straight WACK albums ever

But it gets so so much love...

This is straight no good. The "lyrical genius" is severly average and the beats are some of El-P's worst ever.

one of the best albums in this century if you ask me, by far El-P's best work on the boards; i don't care much for him besides this LP though. I remember when this came out, it was such a new sound for me and totally groundbreaking, it's tripped out psychosis on wax while maintaining a boom-bap sound underneath all of that. Can O fits this type of production perfect and while they ain't no super talented MC's they have some clever and different lyrics though I doubt I would care for them without this album at all. haven't listened to it in maybe a year or two but i remember the greatness of it, no doubt...

    10/10

Definitively not a wack album! How can you not like A B-Boys Alpha? I don't say its a personal classis for me but I listen to it from time to time and i still enjoy it. But each his own opinion

    Damn.

    How did this happen?

I kno everybody are going to disagree with my opinion, but I like this album more than, for instance, Enter the 36 Chambers, and that still being a classic in my eyes.

    [Vast Aire]
My mother said, "You sucked my pussy when you came out
    Don't ever talk back
I handed ya life and I'll snatch it back"
I'm just a latch key kid with a snotty nose
    High school drop out
    Space, I'm around me whiteout
And I ain't dealin with no minimum wage
I'd rather construct rhymes on a minimum page
Cynical ways, cats sin for nickels these days
    Pulling the chrome out
And you actin like pullin the chrome out
Hated the sound of grandma's cryin the crooked letter
You could hear it from the ground or when the sky thunders
    Made you wonder 'bout early
    Sunday morning
Relatives dressed in black and they all mourning
Flows be bangin in the paint, throwin elbows
My first fight was me against five boroughs
    I lost my first wish
But remembered every detail of my first kiss
    That's that Bronx Tale bliss
    The holiest of holies
    Hip hop, it was '88
Even at the age of 10, phrases levitate
    Drinkin Lil' Hug quarter waters
Dodgin stray slugs on the corner in that exact order
While you playin, death is what happens
I found the passion: aerosol cans and hands clappin
    Backspins, microphones and cats rappin
Linoleum and up rockers, the show shockers
Who rip Lee patches off of imposters
You ain't the Real McCoy, you a wind up toy
    And it's gonna cost ya
    And that's my B-Boy Alpha

It's one of the albums that made me wanna rap.

My fav. song from the album:

Yeah, it's highly metaphorical, clever and dope, and the best Def Jux album to date. This is their Liquid Swords. I can see how some people don't like this, since half of the songs ain't really straightforward, but I just can't get enuff of this album...

Took me about a year to like it..

    Top 5 albums ever.

Do you not think the lyrics to this is genius?

It's like, I care about you, I think about you all the time
it's like, we friends and shit?
which means we treat each other right
you'll be there for me when you gonna be there for me

    Verse 1: [Vast Aire Kramer]
yo it wasn't even like that
I wanted my cardiovascular to fight back
cupid had me runnin' circles blindfolded
in the daytime with a flashlight looking for her
yo, sit back, relax and smell the roses
a fly girl by any other name would still be that
but the trick is to see that
I'm caught in between future's fantasies and memories I played back
told my man I started sword fighting
'cause fencing was similar to tongue kissing
if you wait too long you gonna end up confessin'
all I think about is you undressin'
I extended my thoughts in a relationship
but they sunk like the titanic relation-ships
she was in a love triangle
but it wasn't like my feelings weren't there to make it a square
    penny's for her thoughts
she's my very own American Beauty, red petals when we talk
    ...the f word

    Chorus 1: [Vordul Megalon]
She like music, got me heavily booted(?)
when I'm out with her feelings be mixin'
chemical elixirs, caught her like a sickness
and can't get rid of it, these sexual addictions

    Chorus 2: [Vordul]
tangle witted in my opposite sex friendships
with too many emotions, got me bent up
and it's real ill when something going on
but nothings being said trying to figure it out
wrapped all in your head just spit it out and I'll
truly understand what the problem is
'cause you got me twisted tryin' to stress birds
    kickin' that f word
fuckin around, flirtin' and stressin' my nerves

    Verse 2: [Vast]
check this situation, I wore my lust like cologne
    she called it Obsession
the background's black and white and we adolescents
like what the fuck we know about love?
the more I learn it's like the Clash of the Titans
all I wanna do is avoid fightin'
a little arguing's okay but not everyday
and if we can't communicate what we got decays
until the smell gets more pungent
to the point where we can't be seen in public
body parts fallin' apart, a symbol of what things do
or better yet, a symbol of what friends do, they die
and together forever just sounds fly
that's how it sounded to me when I heard it
and slow motion was her lips as she worded
    the f word
"don't take it personal, I like you a lot but I don't wanna lose what we got"
but what we got now is friction
she tellin' me intimacy and friendship she ain't mixin'
    the f word

    Chorus 1

    Verse 3: [Vast]
yo, you burnin' the candle at both ends
I'm supposed to be the friend, I'm gettin' fried in the end
the big bang theory, what is this a trend?
you ask a girl out and the universe extends
tell me to talk to the hand again and I'll read your palm
I'm smellin' your shit now, don't know how to call
all I wanted was grounds for understanding
I ain't greedy, but to hold your heart I gotta put my hand in, why debate?
you think you can fit me in that anorexic space between love and hate?
I got all of the first one and none of the other
and that's something I learned from my sister and my mother
thought we was close in the genesis before all this
technology was cordless, a senseless courtship
this is more than just a song and when he's treating you wrong
I'm more than just a shoulder to cry on
    the F word

    Chorus 1 & 2

With that beat? No, the lyrics sound wack and like an emo song over that.

The flow isn't for me either.

I'd prefer to read Dylan Thomas poetry, for real.

Nothing against Cannibal Ox themselves but I hate anything produced by El-P.

Well, Enter for me doesn't have so many GREAT songs [I gave Tearz and Wu-Tang Ain't Nuthin To Fuck Wit 4 stars, for instance]

Some people love this album, some hate it - but it's a Def Jux thing. If u love Def Juxxies and how El-P change samples into something digital, then it's one of the best things u'll ever heard.

Can Ox are just in that category as Holocaust, Canibus, ..... u can't put them next to anyone, they're so special, that u can't say, they are like that, u gotta listen to them to know if u like them.

    bring back begongo!!

My boy who loves jay z, lil wayne, and all that mainstream rap, borrowwed this from me a couple of months after I bought. I thought he was going to hate this album, but he couldn't take it out of his system for months. I literaly had to steal it back from him because I wanted to hear it again. To me this is def jux's best work. One of the best joints ever made to me. Severely dope.
