Default Black beams when I play movies on my PS3.

Is there a way to get rid of them?

I was at my mates house yesterday and the movie he played was fullscreen.

Only DVD I have played recently that's fullscreen is CSI:NY.

I don't understand half of the settings so I might have to change some of them.

    I have this tv:

    That's what I did.

I changed it from Letterbox to Pan and Scan.

    Doesn't work.

Look for an option, "fit to screen", it's usually in there somewhere

The menu's of the dvd's are always fullscreen but most of the movies aren't.

Some, like CSI:NY are fullscreen though.

I think it's the way the movies were made but I want to know for sure.

Yea, on the menu screen of the DVD you can change that, its not the TV I don't think...

You can't change video options in the dvd menu..

When I watch tv programs I can change from Widescreen to 14: 9 to 4:3 or whatever I want but that's not possible when I watch a movie.

Maybe because of the HDMI cable?

That's because you buy movies in a certain format, but some come with a DVD menu option to change format. If you bought a letterbox or widescreen movie for example and told your TV to fit to screen, well it would be fitting to screen, because the black bars are part of the movie, hence there is nothing you could do.

Ok, that's what I thought too.

But I thought maybe there's an option to ''force'' my ps3 to spread it out but I guess there isn't one.

    Thanks for your help!

change the video output to one that matches your tv?

    SD, 720p or 1080p?
