Thread: So how you gonna say 2005 has been shit?

Default So how you gonna say 2005 has been shit?

Musically at the very least, 2005 has (so far) beaten out every year since 2001 - maybe even that. There's been music for everyone's taste and we've got another 3 and a half months to go. Beanie Sigel & Common opened up the year fantastically with 2 incredible albums, Documentary was a breath of fresh air for Aftermath/Shady/G-Unit (here's hoping that Obie Trice, Busta & Eve follow it up anytime) as well. Sure, you had your disappointments but with 3 tight albums in 4 months, how can you possible complain? BCC came back hard with the Triple Threat series, all of which are (personally) sleeper hits. Prince Paul dropped TWO albums this year (unreleased + Itstrumental) both of which were bangers. Wu-Tang showed strong with the Math album & the Grandmasters (not yet mastered/released, but it's tight). The West finally made an attempt at new shit with Trauma (DJ Quik) and I've got high hopes for the Warren G album coming out soon. South had some quality shit (I won't get into it because I know most people here hate on the south) and then how can you forget Kanye? Miri Ben-Ari album rocks too. So you know.. what's the fucking problem? Can 2002-2004 really match up?

Yeah, this year has been great for me too. There are always gonna be disappointments, any year, but people have focused on them (Capone, 50 Cent, Tony Yayo & so on) as opposed to the really good shit.

Oh, and I forgot to mention - LB & Blackalicious dropped great albums.

So basically you're having a whinge because hip-hop isn't exclusively yours anymore? Cry me a river, Hip-Hop has been commercial since 97 AT LEAST. But go ahead, maybe one day Wu-Tang will make that album that you place all your hopes and dreams for hip-hop on.

Needless to say it's not that much of a compliment at all to say this is the best year since 2001. I think your kidding yourself if your saying this is a "great" year for hip hop. I dont think anything will compare to the compare to the rap of the early through mid 90's, but it's fallen soooo far. I do believe after GZA and Ghost drop, i'll maybe have a different opinion.

Fair enough. A lot of people get attached to certain styles of hip-hop and are always looking for the same sound, so I guess '95-ish will always be your favorite year. No disrespect, but I like a lot of the new shit coming out. It might just be me.

Once GZA drops, you can say this year was a positive year.

I think its very biased to say the next Wu CD will bring back hip hop. 1 album cant do it, and there are bigger names than wu that have been dropping are about too (nas) and it isnt bringing it back. It is just in a different stage, like disco, and its the stage for bitches, and were just not bitches.

this year has been incredible for me..... ive dropped money on a bunch of albums and the uk scene is really picking up too, but the best is yet to come, theres a few albums coming out that are certain to be classic and prove that hip hop is not dead
