Thread: Someone put me on to Kool G Rap...

Default Someone put me on to Kool G Rap...

Yip, I'm waaaaaaay late I know, never really been able to get into Kool G Rap, but I picked up his 4, 5, 6 album a couple of weeks ago and its fookin' dope!!!

This is pretty much all I've heard from him though, apart from a few guest appearances and the shit he's done with Wu recently.

So, if anyone can point me in the right direction, what to cop first, what to avoid, rare shit, guest appearances, freestyle.

Any info would be muchly appreciated!

    Peace!

+ My Life off of The Giancana Story

Fight Club off the same album

His albums with DJ Polo are classic and pretty much dope all the way through, 456 is his best solo album but you can't really go wrong with any of his work. The Giancana Story is an underrated CD though and it's my 2nd fav G Rap solo.

All his albums are worth getting. Get the ones with Polo first, then his solos. Don't bother with Click of Respect. It's not bad, but you really don't need it. Probably wouldn't bother with the ep he dropped last year either, at this point.

THE LORD noel411 HAS A NEW ALBUM OUT!!! Czech it out here...

Personally, I think Live and Let Die is the best of the 3 albums he did with DJ Polo. It's definitely the one you wanna get if your looking for his Mafia/violent crime oriented stuff that is the direct precursor to the Mafioso rap craze of the 90s. He started the persona on certain tracks from the previous two albums, but Live and Let Die is more consistently in that vein. Plus it's got great guest appearances from Big Daddy Kane, Ice Cube, Scarface, and Bushwick Bill.

Road to the Riches is a great Juice Crew album with Marly Marl production and straight MCing for the most part. Only a few concept songs, though. It's much more in the vein of BDK's early albums.

Wanted: Dead or Alive is mostly produced by Eric B. and Large Professor, so you know it's got sick beats. Some of it's crime/street life oriented tracks, but most are just good MC-ing. For obvious reasons, it has a similar atmosphere to an Eric B & Rakim album and Main Source's Breaking Atoms.
