Default Why Europeans advanced faster than other peoples

In our earliest societies, humans lived as hunter-gatherers. The first step towards civilization is the move from hunter-gatherer to agriculture, with the domestication and farming of wild crops and animals. Agricultural production leads to food surpluses, which supports sedentary societies, rapid population growth, and specialization of labor. Large societies tend to develop ruling classes and supporting bureaucracies, which leads in turn to the organization of empires.[1]

Although agriculture arose in several parts of the world, Eurasia gained an early advantage due to the availability of suitable plant and animal species for domestication. In particular, the Middle East had by far the best collection of plants and animals suitable for domestication barley, two varieties of wheat and three protein-rich pulses for food; flax for textiles; goats, sheep and cattle provided meat, leather, glue (by boiling the hooves and bones) and, in the case of sheep, wool. As early Middle Eastern civilizations began to trade, they found additional useful animals in adjacent territories, most notably horses and donkeys for use in transport. In contrast, Native American farmers had to struggle to develop maize as a useful food from its probable wild ancestor, teosinte. Eurasia as a whole domesticated 13 species of large animals (over 100lb / 44 kg); South America just one (counting the llama and alpaca as breeds within the same species); the rest of the world none at all. Diamond describes the small number of domesticated species (14 out of 148 "candidates") as an instance of the Anna Karenina principle: many promising species have just one of several significant difficulties that prevent domestication. For example, horses are easily domesticated, but their biological relatives zebras and onagers are untameable; and although Asian elephants are tameable, it is very difficult to breed them in captivity.

    * Other advanced cultures developed in areas whose geography was conducive to large, monolithic, isolated empires. In these conditions policies of technological and social stagnation could persist until Europeans arrived. China was a very notable example, for example in 1432 a new Emperor outlawed the building of ocean-going ships, in which China was the world leader at the time.
    * Europe's geography favored balkanization into smaller, closer, nation-states, as its many natural barriers (mountains, rivers) provide defensible borders. As a result, governments that suppressed economic and technological progress soon corrected their mistakes or were out-competed relatively quickly. As an example of this national Darwinism, Diamond offers the disappearance of the counter-progressive Polish regime. He argues that geographical factors created the conditions for more rapid internal superpower change (Spain succeeded by France and then by England) than was possible elsewhere in Eurasia.

it boils down to war. europeans are numerous with almost no natural resources, the countries thus had to be war like and the most war ready a country make it's self the fast 'development' happens because its life or death

european development is almost a direct result of starting from the absolute bottom and having nothing.

    1. england got to crowded to profit from farming
    2. farmers started thinking of ways to make the best out of the little land they had
    3. ppl that couldn't farm anymore due to lack of land went into trades
    4. making cloths is a trade
    5. a flood of ppl went into making cloths
    6. the clothing market got crowded and ppl started thinking of ways to make better cloths faster
    7. the first factory was invented, the industrial revolution begins.
    8. the dutch, with even less land and resources see that this is really their only option in surviving and copy england
    10. france knows if england gets to strong, they will be killed, they start copying englad
    11. germany knows if france gets too strong, they will be killed, they start copying both
    12. the paranoid domino effect starts all over the continent.

european countries are at each others throats and back then if 1 slipped behind they would get devoured.

tropical societies are rare to build large empires cause all their needs are literally an arms reach away and they're isolated from their neighbors

protestantism also led to the cultural ability to think twice about your own culture where as the rest of the world just accept things the way they are culturally and trying to change it is alien to them. After the break with the church western culture and society began it's constant tradition of progressive secular thought which lead to development

Without the innovations and renovations of the arabs during the 7th and 15th centuries europe would still be in the dark ages.

Are you going to deal in equality and give credit to the people who gave the arabs their knowledge and wisdom?

The arabs wouldn't have accomplished their achievements without the aide of other civilizations and societies either, so give credit where credit is due.

And those arabs that gave europe the light of civilization are NOT the arabs in arabia today....unless they're the one's pushed off the land in some remote areas.

As i said the Arabs did Renovations and Innovations, They created many famous institutions such as observatories, libraries, mental institutions and Universities. But carried on the works of the greco-roman masters, Socrates, Plato Aristotle and brought them to the mainstream.

Of course the Arabs of today are the same, they may act different but you have to remember they are at their worst point in history, they were the first targets of the elitists, and have been oppressed the worst, there still fighting for basic civil liberties. Ironic aint it.

THIS IS WHAT THE MOORS DID WHILE THEY WERE IN EUROPE, AND NO THEY DID NOT CARRY ON THE WORKS OF THOSE PEOPLE MENTIONED.

Of course the Arabs of today are the same,

    NO, THEY'RE NOT THE SAME.

It's all about geography and climate.

With good standpoint on the map and plenty of resources you got wealthy countries. And plus add the fact that europe is relatively small in compare to asia or africa.

And then you got relatively small space with good and fertile land with many people fighting eachother for centuries, conquering each other and shit. And because of that rivalry you've got many technologies developed, long before other civilizationns

Because our countries have been infiltrated by elitists. If you do research you will see that most of all Arab leaders were taught in America and came to Their respective country when the time was right.

Your like a kid tsa, telling me to shut up when i make a valid point that goes against your beliefs.
