There was a lot of hype on this album. Whatta you homeskillets think of the final product?
Its cool stuff, soulful with a hint of indie rock, even a hip hop influence on most of the tracks. obviously 'video games' beats the shit out out of the rest of the album but that was always gonna happen. not a perfect album but enough to warrant paying attention to her in the future.

Don't know, haven't heard it yet.
I was interested but I couldn't find a link that hadn't been dickslapped by DCMA and I'm not about to pay money for that.

I got ahold of the album, I'm definitely digging it.
Homegirl has some range, but obviously she punches out after verses and punches back in for hooks. I like the melancholy, down tempo production on the album, it suits her voice perfectly. Her lyrics are on some live fast, fuck hard, die young and pretty shit. Us against the world music, anthems for disenhearted youngsters.

I listened to the album, and I like her voice. I'd rather see a whole album of mostly somber, melancholy songs from her, instead of some of that pop like Katy Perry/Kesha type stuff that was thrown in there. Though I know that wouldn't appeal to the public as much.

If you want something somber, slightly similar, you should get your hands on Susanne Sundfør's The Brothel. The way I see it, Lana Del Rey is a decent artist with an enormous amount of talent. If she finds her own musical expression instead of becoming another pop sensation riding every trend that comes along (j.lo, britney+ , I think she'll have a bright future. Her voice is great (yes, it is that great, wera) and now that her name is huge, she shouldn't really need trends to sell millions(look at Adele, sometimes just making great music is the best way to do it). What slightly ruins the album for me is how uneven it is. It starts of amazing with the first four tracks, then Diet Mountain Dew & National Anthem comes right after each other and at that point I have a hard time continuing listening to the album every time I've tried to listen to it in it's entirety.

better than dubstep though.
theres only a few weak tracks, girl knows how to write a chorus, plus she has an evocative use of language. and for the most part the production is very good. theres a few more poppy numbers but they're more interesting than most and i think you need something for balance anyway.

Pretty meh, tbh. Nothing stands out. The lyrics are dull and there's very little creativity.
4/10 Born To Die > The Dubstep Genre? No, not a fucking chance. Get rid of that Skrillex shit and listen to some Burial or Skream!
