But the pure wool could mean white wool as opposed to wool with varying colours..
This was a very long time ago remember.. language changes thru slang thru time... i see your point but this could and is seen from lot of different points..

brown or black wool is not pure wool ? do you think they saw it that way way back then ? white wool is pure and all other colors of wool are not pure ?
