so who's the better overall tennis player?

there are many who say nadal is the best cuz he sort of owns the FED in the head to head. clearly nadal is a bad matchup for him.

other than that though, the FED has him beat. he has more than twice as many slams, and while federer only loses to nadal and beats everyone else, nadal loses to everyone else and has only been able to consistently beat the FED on clay which is his best surface.

plus federer dominates 3 out of 4 surfaces and the only reason he doesnt dominate clay is because of nadal who is arguably the best clay player ever. nadal has not been very successful on any surface other than clay.

what do you guys think?

one sweats a whole fucking lot
one never sweats, at all.

thats my entire opinion on comparing these two. you cant compare them. they are both ridiculous. although i saw Monfils come as close to dominating Nadal in the last round first set as you can come to doing that. but then he lost the next 3 sets. basically because he was no longer playing perfect.

yep,

the ultimate warrior vs. the machine, and as far as head to head the warrior has won. he's the only one who has been able to beat the machine though.

andy murray has a very very good record v federer. hes won like 7 of 9 v him.
murray chokes on the big stage though.

guess he's getting him in the minor tourneys. dudes been untouchable in slams against everyone but nadal(2-5 against him in slams)

All good points wade, and Federer isn't even at his best anymore, and he's still the dominant animal.

Nadal is great, but i think Federer in his prime will always be better than him, unless Nadal improves significantly in the coming years.

Additionally, Federer is not only the best, but also the most entertaining tennis player.

He used to (and still does, but not as often) consistently and nonchalantly do amazing things. Shots that you watch and can hardly believe, like it was nothing.

The guy won 11 grand slam in only 4 years, and in that period was amazingly dominant.

He's only lost in 3 non clay Grand Slam finals, all 5 set matches.

Anyway, both are great players.

Federer is the greatest player to play the game.
Nadal has to work on the finesse side of his as he gets injured quite a bit
And you can tell it takes it's toll on him.
I'd say Federer's strength when hitting the ball outways Nadal's technical ability
And that pretty much sums it up.

Federer is like Rocky and Nadal is like Drago
He can hold his own with the power, but is more elegant than Nadal
Where as Nadal is like previously said : "a machine"
He'll just blitz you off the court, and crush you.
Feder will just give you a Tennis lesson, he's a Grandmaster.

Both incredible players in different ways, but I've always said Federer is that dude.

Nadal wont improve in time. He grinds way too much and its tearing his body up faster. His frame is too big for tennis. Federer had a longer career so far but I think they will retire around the same time.

Head to Head is owns Federer, and his off-clay game has been getting better and better.

provided he doesnt get injured again, he'll become number 1 and possibly out do Feds record, cos hes about 7 years younger than him

Nadal is still amazing though.

I remember hearing that he puts 50% more spin on the ball than any other player.

Which is nuts when you think about it.

I don't think head to head in this instance is that important either, because if you discount clay, they are virtually even.

And i think the question is who is better, not who win the most between the two (they seem like the same thing, but aren't really).

As wade said, Nadal is a bad match up for Federer.
