Karate Kid sequel already underway
omewhat surprisingly, THE KARATE KID kung-fu'd its way this past weekend to some really impressive box office numbers (blowing THE A-TEAM clean out of the water by about $30 mil). Considering that the film
- which is at about $62 million right now - ran clean past its reported $40 million budget, the prospect of a KARATE KID 2 was pretty much a given. Well now Mike Fleming at Deadline is confirming that. His sources are saying that Sony execs are now meeting with writers to pitch ideas on where exactly to take the second installment. Inevitable, I guess. On the plus side, THE KARATE KID has been generally well-received from both critics and audiences (though I keep hearing that it could lose about 30 minutes of footage and not suffer a thing). But where could a sequel go |

Straight to hell, that's where. Remakes of classic franchises are played out. Movie studios need to stop raping nostalgia and ruining our collective childhoods. P.S. Will Smith's gay ass kid looks like Riley Freeman.
