Most people put down the NHL, but going head to head with NBA teams in the same city, the NHL really holds it own for the most part. these are the average attendance figures for the 2011-2012 regular season. keep in mind, the same arenas have a larger capacity for basketball than they do hockey.
Boston: Celtics 18,624 Bruins 17,564 Chicago: Bulls 22,161 Blackhawks 21,533 Dallas: Mavericks 20,334 Stars 14,226 Denver: Nuggets 17,029 Avalanche 15,498 Detroit: (different arenas) Pistons 14,413 Red Wings 20,114 Los Angeles: Clippers 19,219 Lakers 18,997 Kings 17,920 Miami: (different arenas) Heat 19,935 Panthers 16,628 Minnesota: (different arenas) Timberwolves 17,490 Wild 17,772 New Jersey: Nets 13,961 Devils 15,396 NYC: Knicks 19,763 Rangers 18,191 Philadelphia: 76ers 17,502 Flyers 20,433 Phoenix: (different arenas) Suns 15,597 Coyotes 12,420 Toronto: Raptors 16,835 Maple Leafs 19,506 Washington DC: Wizards 16,728 Capitals 18,506
