Tips on making a successful blog/vlog? (not meant for GEN CHAT)

I want to make a sports blog/vlog.

Some solely print-based, but others on video with opinions, etc on the topics of interest.

The only issue is, I've never blogged before or vlogged; I never had an interest doing osmething like this until I found my opinions on the topics of interest could be perceived as being genuine, and valid.

Some assistance would be nice plz with people who have experience in this area.

I've tried looking at various easy-to-do blog pages, where you have an option of backgrounds/skins as your initial webpage, but I want to make a custom background, without having to pay some ridiculous fee.

On that note, I've never done a webpage background before, so any recommendations or suggestions, tips, assistance, etc would be greatly appreciated.
